Wait For His Timing

I admit that my mind works oddly sometimes. Today, I was remembering how, several years ago, the church in which I was one of four pastors, we always taught on Wisdom and Prosperity. One of our biggest priorities was to always make plans. Wasn’t it Benjamin Franklin who said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”
My friends, don’t go into any venture without making a plan. Proverbs 21:5, tells us that, “Careful planning puts you ahead in the long run; hurry and scurry puts you further behind.” Another translations renders that verse as, “The plans of a hard-working person lead to prosperity, but everyone who is always in a hurry ends up in poverty.” So, even Scriptures take it seriously!
The point is, too often we jump into things and often that “jumping,” will cost us big time! We must learn to wait, to think things through; to ponder and pray about issues. I have always said that I will not make “spur-of-the-moment” decisions. When I go to purchase a car, and the salesman sales, “Well, here is the deal, but you must make the deal today.” My response is always, “Well, I guess I will lose out.” If I don’t have time to pray and to consider, I don’t need your “deal.”
In our fast-paced and immediate-response society, waiting is seen as a passive acceptance of circumstances. Or worse, it’s something we do when we have to have, as a last resort! But the Scripture clearly teaches us to “wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14) and when we do, we will be richly rewarded (Isaiah 64:4). Now, please understand this doesn’t mean that you sit around idly or apathetically, but with a determined stillness. It is a quiet, expectant, steadfast, courageous and diligent activity until we receive other instructions from the Lord. It is truly a much more rewarding and peaceful way to live.
You see, in every situation, timing is most important. This is true in battles, in operating rooms, in sports, in negotiations, and certainly in our daily walk with the Lord! One of top reasons we fall out of our Father’s will is because we don’t know His timing. But if we will actively wait, and place complete trust in Him whether we see results or not. We won’t be anxious because we will know He has a divine reason for making us wait and just taking the time to pause.
It is when we become impatient that we take things into our own hands and step out of our Lord’s will. When we fail to wait on our Lord, it delays His blessings and sometimes brings pain and suffering. I hate being the one to share that with you, but you need know. The cost of our mistake will show up in our finances, relationships, business and lost opportunities.
Aah, but on the other hand, when we are willing to wait for our Father’s clear directions, we remain in step with Him. He uses this time to prepare us for His will, strengthens our faith, and sift our motives. Waiting is absolutely essential in living the Christian life, and walking in obedience to our Father and receiving His blessings in our lives.
