In Edward Pentin’s 2015 book, “The Rigging of a Vatican Synod,” Cdnl. Walter Brandmuller said of the Francis pontificate: “Communion for the divorced and ‘remarried’ [comes] first. Then abolition of priestly celibacy, second. Priesthood for women is the ultimate aim, and lastly unification with the Protestants. Then we will have a national German church, independent from Rome. Finally, together with all the Protestants.” R4R discusses this prediction in the context of the Amazon synod and the recent Vatican instruction for parishes (released 7/20) decried by the German Bishops Conference yet defended by St. Gallen Mafia alum Cardinal Walter Kasper on 7/27. Tim shows why Kasper defended the ostensibly non-progressive document, and why it still represents a Vatican push for progress of the latter two goals predicted by Brandmuller.
