Can you help heal Ash’s broken heart? DONATE NOW Dear Carl, Ash’s heartbreaking story began when she was rescued from possible euthanasia in a Louisiana shelter after her family abandoned her. Following a routine medical exam at our Pet Health Centers, this sweet six-year-old Lab mix was found to have a life-threatening heart condition and needed emergency surgery to survive. With your urgent gift, Ash’s story won’t end here. Ash was diagnosed with a complete AV block an electrical disconnect between the chambers of the heart, putting her at high risk for sudden cardiac arrest and death. There was no time to waste. Our medical team determined an implantable pacemaker could address this issue, and the long-term prognosis in dogs is very positive. This is a highly specialized procedure, and Ash needed to be transported immediately to our veterinary partner, Animal Medical Center of New York. The cost for this surgery and recovery is substantial.
