Lay people are threatened and harassed, but abusive and predatory priests are not hindered. Is this not the definition of hypocrisy? The Catholic "Summer of Shame" in 2018 about the abuse of ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the inaction of the USA bishops, and then the mishandling of the situation of 2021 has revealed a structure of hypocrisy and "self-care" by the bishops and clergy. The laypeople are more and more discouraged as we watch Roman collars take care of Roman collars.
