COVID culture war continues

Phony Catholic Joe Biden is accusing some Republican governors of failing to act against the China virus. Church Militant's David Nussman unravels this latest development in the fight between pandemic panic and civil liberty.
Joe Biden: "I say to these governors, 'Please help. But if you aren't going to help, at least get out of the way. ... I believe the results of their decisions are not good for their constituents."
Those were Biden's comments Tuesday about Republican governors who aren't imposing COVID restrictions, like Texas governor Greg Abbott and Florida governor Ron DeSantis — both of whom are pro-life Catholics.
DeSantis hit back Wednesday, affirming it's his job to protect the rights of Floridians.
Ron Desantis: "Joe Biden suggests that if you don't do lockdown policies then you should 'get out of the way.' But let me tell you this: If you're coming after the rights of parents in Florida, I'm standing in your way. I'm not going to let you get away with it."
He also said it's hypocritical for Biden to let swarms of illegal migrants into the country while wanting to restrict American citizens.
DeSantis: "If you're trying to restrict people, impose mandates, if you're trying to ruin their jobs and their livelihoods and their small business, if you are trying to lock people down, I am standing in your way and I'm standing for the people of Florida."
Both DeSantis in Florida and Abbott in Texas have moved to stop institutions from requiring vaccination.
On Wednesday, the White House doubled down on Biden's comments, saying it's all about public health, not politics.
But conservatives argue the well-being of society requires going back to normal — not indefinitely prolonging COVID restrictions.
