It took a week because the Afghan army of 300,000 well equipped and armed, were simply waiting for the USA to leave and then they go back to an islamic dictatorship, they had zero intention to fight islam because that is the real fight..
Yes, the real fight is with islam. We are in a religious war, but Western leaders cannot see that. If only George Bush had bombed Medina with the message that we would bomb Mecca next if there were anymore terrorist attacks. They knew they wouldn't have US backing so they just quit and/or went over to the other side. Bringing them here is a huge mistake. How much cash did our dear gov't wash in that country. Are they trying to coverup their crimes by allowing those that aided them with this die?
The ongoing fiasco of what was done in Afghanistan after the jihadist state was smashed doesn't mitigate the fact that it was, in fact, smashed, and that a generation of jihadists were decimated. That incursion was absolutely justified for that reason (if only the Saudis and Iranians had been included). The problem is this "if you break it, you own it" mentality that has lead to colossal folly, especially when partnered with an adamant refusal to look Islam in the face. Nor was anything going to work without confronting Pakistan, for whom the Taliban is a proxy army.
