Gary Varvel: Squatters, property-rights and election interferenceA couple of Varvelous interviews plus what you're paying for in the $1.2 trillion spending bill
Even if you’re a Never Trumper, you have to admit that being fined nearly a half a billion dollars is excessive and an obvious weaponization of the government. In this cartoon I combined the recent issue of “Sqatters rights” with what Judge Engoron and D.A. Letitia James are threatening to do with Trump’s properties if he doesn’t cough up $500 million. (For comic relief, I drew some cats). THE HEART OF AMERICA’S PROBLEMI originally wrote and posted this in 2021.“For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.” - Matthew 15:19 Imagine that you came home from a trip and found that you left the water running upstairs and it had overflowed and was pouring from the ceiling, running down the stairs and pooling on you nice hardwood floors. Now, what would you do first? You would go to the heart of the problem, right? You’d shut off the water first. There is a flood of violence in America today but instead of addressing the heart of the problem, politicians focus on pass laws. President Biden announced some executive actions that he says will stop gun violence. News flash: Law-breakers, break laws, that’s why they’re called law-breakers. Passing more laws or executive orders won’t stop them. Why? Because it doesn’t get to heart of the problem which is the problem with the heart of mankind. Jesus said that evil thoughts and murders proceed from the heart. The only way to create a moral society is to train them from the only source of morality: The Bible. Unfortunately, we are reaping what we sowed when we stopped teaching the Bible in schools in 1963. The case was Abington v. Schempp and the U.S. Supreme Court decided that school sponsored Bible reading in public schools in the United States to be unconstitutional. The court disregarded the fact that the Bible had been taught in American schools since Massachusetts passed the Old Deluder Satan Act in 1647. The religious intent of the law was to stop, “ye old deluder, Satan” in his goal “to keep men from the knowledge of ye Scriptures.” In other words, the Puritans started schools to teach people to read so that they could read the Bible. The New England Primer textbook used Bible verses to teach the alphabet. This was the educational system of our Founding Fathers. But since 1963, we have created a famine in America, not of food or water, but of the Word of God (Amos 8:11). Oh sure, the Bible is easily available online or through an app but for 60 years Americans weren’t exposed to the Bible in school and the majority don’t read it today. As a result they don’t know basic truth like; God created 2 genders (male and female). Watch this clip of Mr. Rogers on the Tonight Show in 1980, as he talks about genders at about the 6:50 mark. Listen to the audience reaction. This was when people still had common sense to know right from wrong. Forty-four years later we have a society that is Biblically illiterate. And this is why our politicians aren’t able to diagnose the heart of our problems like gun violence or what bathroom to use. I hate to say it but the Old Deluder, Satan has succeeded. Where is the hope for America? Romans 1:16 says, “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. First for the Jew and then for the Gentile.” As we get closer to the celebration of Resurrection Day (Easter), I pray that American’s will turn their hearts back to our only hope.
