Child Insists A Monster Is Under The Bed, Babysitter Finds…

A babysitter made a shocking and terrifying discovery after a child insisted that there was a monster under their bed.

On March 24 at roughly 10:30 p.m. local time, a babysitter watching several children in a home near Great Bend, Kansas, was told by one of the children that there was a monster under the bed. Of course, the babysitter decided that the best way to reassure and calm the child was to peek under the bed and confirm that there was nothing there.

However, when the babysitter crouched down to look, she came face-to-face with a terrifying sight: a man was hiding underneath the child’s bed.

When the man realized that he had been discovered, he fought with the babysitter before fleeing the home, knocking over one of the children as he fled, according to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office issued a statement about the frightening incident, writing: “On March 24, 2025 at about 10:30 PM Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2000 block of Patton Road, just outside the city of Great Bend. The deputies were responding to a reported disturbance call. Upon arrival the deputies contacted the victim who stated she was babysitting children at the residence. When putting the children to bed, one child complained there was a ‘monster’ under their bed. When the victim attempted to show the child there was nothing under the bed, she came face-to-face with a male suspect who was hiding there. An altercation ensued with the babysitter and one child was knocked over in the struggle. The suspect then fled the scene before deputies arrived.”

The man was later identified as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr., who previously lived in the home but had allegedly been abusive, leading to an order of protection being issued that barred him from the home.

Police caught up with Villalobos the following morning, where he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended and taken to jail. He has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order. He also has prior pending charges of criminal threat, domestic battery, and violating a protection order.

Villalobos is being held on a $500,000 bond.

When the story was shared on Facebook, numerous commenters expressed sympathy for the poor babysitter and the children, pointing out that they will never be the same again after the horrifying incident. One wrote: “I’m glad everyone’s safe but that poor babysitter will probably never babysit again and those children will never believe there’s not a monster under the bed. A literal living nightmare.”

Others on social media commented about how glad they were that the babysitter humored the child, as many would have just insisted that it was the child’s imagination and left the room — leaving the child alone with the “monster.”

“Good on the babysitter for actually humoring the child to the point of looking under the bed! Can you imagine if the babysitter just told the kid to go to bed and knock it off?” one user asked.
