Democrat Leader Calls For ‘Shadow Government’ To Combat Trump
Failed Democrat vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz is facing massive backlash after calling for a “shadow government” to be created to combat President Donald Trump, and thus to combat the will of the American people.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz made the remarks during a town hall event in Texas alongside another failed Democrat — former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), who has run unsuccessful senatorial, gubernatorial, and presidential campaigns.
Walz was responding to a woman in the audience who expressed fear that “we’re not going to make it to the midterms” and asked him how Democrats can ensure that the midterms are “free of fraud.”
He responded by claiming that Trump’s recent executive order about election security — which ordered paper ballots, voter ID, a citizenship requirement and other security measures — was actually about making it more difficult, “specifically to women,” to vote. He also claimed that “one of the first things they do is try and restrict the vote.”
Walz then advocated for a “shadow government” to tell the American people “the truth.”
“This is one of the things, though, that is going to take power to the streets. I don’t know what the answer is on this, but I’m kind of, I’ve been saying this, I think we need a shadow government. So when all these things come up every single day, we’ve got an alternate press conference telling the truth about what things are happening,” Walz stated, prompting loud cheers from the audience.
He went on to hilariously claim that the Democrats’ actual problem when they’re in control is that “we’ve been timid,” adding: “I think we tried to cut deals.” Walz argued that Democrats should have passed the John Lewis Voting Rights act as well as the Employee Free Choice Act while they were in control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Walz’s remarks prompted mockery and backlash on social media, with the official Trump administration rapid response account writing: “Unhinged loser @GovTimWalz wants to form a ‘shadow government’ in protest of requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration and banning foreign nationals from interfering in elections.”
Others argued that this was a clear violation of U.S. law, with one user explaining: “He is inciting anarchy to subvert the government, which could fall under seditious conspiracy (18 U.S.C. § 2384). That law targets two or more people conspiring to ‘overthrow, put down, or destroy by force’ the government, or to ‘oppose by force the authority thereof.’ If the lawmaker and bureaucrats coordinate to use their positions to paralyze or replace the official government, prosecutors might argue this. Penalties are steep—up to 20 years in prison.”
In another hilarious moment of the town hall, Walz said that another major problem for the Democrats was not being “proud” of being “woke” and supporting policies like DEI.
“We let them define the issue on immigration. We let them define the issue on DEI, and we let them define what woke is,” Walz said, adding: “We got ourselves in this mess because we weren’t bold enough to stand up and say, you’re damn right, we’re proud of these policies. We’re gonna put ’em in and we’re gonna execute them.”
Those comments were also ruthlessly mocked on social media, with Tony Lane writing: “You can’t make this up — they actually think the problem is they didn’t go far enough.”
