Ever wonder what a church service would look like if it was packed full of people more likely to say ‘hooah’ than ‘amen’? Well, it’s definitely not your grandmother’s quiet tea-time church.
When you get motivated servicemen with energy rallied together around a transcendent Cause that echoes through eternity? They get enthusiastic.
So enthusiastic, in fact, that screen-shotting a moment from the video without it coming out blurry is almost impossible.
And you know what? However familiar or unfamiliar this kind of a worship service might seem to you, in at least one sense, these guys are doing it right. And it comes back to a word we’ve already used: enthusiastic.
If even the pagan greeks had an idea of passionate expression of a god (theos) overcoming you or ‘possessing’ you, which gives us what later became the word Enthusiasm… how much more should a Christian’s worship have some kind of a sign of life when you realize that the very basis of Christian Belief is the understanding that God’s own Holy Spirit has made a home in us.
These guys would never be mistaken for a roomful of department store mannequins in their worship of the living God.
One might ask… can the same be said for the rest of us?
