SHUTDOWN UPDATE: Schumer Getting DRAGGED For The BRUTAL Self-Own In Yesterday’s Interviw

It's a gift to the GOP

You know that old saw about not interrupting when your opponent makes a mistake? This is exactly the sort of thing such advice was written to describe.

If there was any doubt that Schumer owns this shutdown lock stock and barrel (on account of him holding the balance of votes that keeps GOP from reaching the 60 vote minimum for passing legislation), and Hakeem Jeffries is right there with him (see our story about his encounter with New York’s Mike Lawler).

Schumer is getting all the wrong kinds of publicity from Punchbowl News, the 4yo brainchild of several journos from Politico who struck out on their own. Their daily newsletter pops up in inboxes all over DC.

Now that the rest of us know he said it, the GOP is amplifying the HELL out of it.

Of course we’re amplifying it. Because it makes him look like some kind an ice-cold political operator that is so cynical and conniving he might consider standing on an orphan’s trachea if it meant getting even the slightest political leg up on the other guy.

We’re on the threshold of people in government missing real paychecks, and what is Schumer talking about?

He is excited about how ‘every day of shutdown gets better for us’ [ie: Democrats]

Great work there Chucky… get in there and make it all about Chuck U Schumer.

It sets up a bright-line of contrast between your priorities (you know, never letting a good crisis go to waste) and the GOP position Speaker Johnson just outlined in the video, with a list of accomplishments they ar delivering on even WITH your team sticking it to the little guy whose interests you swore an oath to represent.

Not surprisingly, he made reference to the same split-screen metaphor when he spoke in the House a little later in the day.

I guess if Chuck was honest about the political motto he lives by, this week, anyway is would be ‘their pain is my gain’.

But, of course, it must be remembered… he is that ‘great defender’ of Democracy. He and his party are that last bulwark of defense. Just ask him. He’ll tell you.

Amd mow that we know he thinks your suffering will make him stronger, it is also evident that he is happy to let you keep suffering for as long as it takes for him to get his way.

He’s channeling his inner Farquaad.

Let’s hope he the government gets back to work before Little Lord Farquaad here starts monologuing about how ‘some of you will die, but that’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make.’
