#97 My Life: Making DisciplesDr. Stephen Phinney: The power of making disciples in Christ lies not in mere instruction, but in spiritual multiplication.GO AND MAKE DISCIPLESMaking disciples in Christ is one life igniting another with the fire of truth, grace, and obedience.Listen to the podcast version: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” —Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV) When a believer commits to disciple-making, they step into the divine strategy of transformation that Yeshua Himself modeled: investing deeply, walking relationally, and teaching others to observe all that He commanded. This is not a program—it is a calling. Through discipleship, the gospel moves from generation to generation, not as doctrines but as embodiment. It is the Spirit’s way of reproducing the life of Christ in others, introducing them to authentic salvation, shaping hearts to reflect His image, and building a legacy that outlasts time. A LIFE DEDICATED TO DISCIPLESHIPI am living proof that God delights in using “the lesser of these.” My life has not been marked by ease or applause, but by rejection, misunderstanding, and seasons of deep grief.I have walked through valleys where silence screamed louder than words, and where the ache of being cast aside threatened to consume me. Yet it was in those very places—where human logic failed and strength was stripped away—that the Spirit of Christ came to dwell within me. Not as a distant comfort, but as a living presence. He did not erase my wounds; He birthed life through them. The rejection I endured became the soil in which divine indwelling took root. When Christ took residence in me, everything changed. The torment of isolation was met with the intimacy of His voice. The lies of worthlessness were silenced by the truth of His Word. I was no longer defined by what others abandoned, but by the One who never would. His Spirit did not merely console me—it commissioned me. I began to see that my story was not a tragedy, but a testimony, penned by the quill of God by the blood of Yeshua. The very pain that once disqualified me became the platform from which I could speak life into others. I was not called to survive—I was called to disciple. To take the comfort I received and pour it into others who were still wandering, still wounded, still waiting. And so I committed my life to the sacred work of discipleship—not as a task, but as a legacy.I disciple not from a pedestal, but from the trenches. I walk with others through their own rejection, their own questions, their own longing to be indwelt by Christ. I teach them not to escape suffering, but to embrace the Savior who meets them in it. This is the power of multiplication: one life surrendered, igniting another. My journey is not unique—it is a mirror of what God longs to do in every believer. To take the broken, the overlooked, the lesser—and make them vessels of glory. This is the gospel lived out. And it is my joy to spend the rest of my days helping others discover it for themselves. THE POWER & FULFILLMENT IN DISCIPLING OTHERSThe call to make disciples is not a suggestion—it is a divine mandate issued by Yeshua Himself. In His final earthly words, He commissioned His followers: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19). This command is not reserved for pastors or missionaries alone—it is the sacred responsibility of every believer indwelt by the Spirit of Christ. Discipleship is the heartbeat of the Great Commission, the means by which the life of Yeshua is multiplied in others. It is how the gospel moves from generation to generation—not merely through proclamation, but through transformation. I have learned to disciple others in and through the life of Yeshua is to invite them into a journey of intimacy, obedience, and identity. It is not about behavior modification, but about spiritual regeneration. As we walk with others, teaching them to abide in Christ, we help them discover who they truly are: new creations, sons and daughters of the Most High, co-heirs with the Messiah. The joy of discipleship is watching the veil lift from a soul’s eyes as they realize they are no longer defined by their past, their failures, or the world’s labels—but by the righteousness of Christ imputed to them. It is witnessing the Spirit release His likeness, one surrendered step at a time. This sacred work is not without cost. It requires time, vulnerability, and a willingness to walk through the messiness of growth. But the reward is eternal. Scripture promises that those who sow into the lives of others will reap a harvest that cannot be measured in earthly terms. Paul writes, “What is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at His coming? Is it not you?” (1 Thessalonians 2:19). Every soul discipled, every life transformed, becomes a jewel in the crown of eternity. On Heaven’s side, the fruit of faithful discipleship will sound forever—lives redeemed, legacies restored, and generations awakened to the glory of God. To disciple is to partner with the Spirit in building what cannot be shaken. It is to invest in what moth and rust cannot destroy. And it is to hear, on that final day, the words every believer longs for: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Aw, to hear those words spoken! The joy of discipling others is not just in the now—it is in the forever. And it is a joy worth giving our lives to. I pray that my life journey has stirred something deep within you—a holy resolve to endure to the end.“But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” —Matthew 24:13 (ESV) My path has not been paved with ease, but with trials that tested my soul, rejection that pierced my heart, and persecutions that sought to silence the message entrusted to me. Yet through it all, the indwelling Life of Yeshua has been my anchor, my strength, and my song. His presence did not remove the fire—it walked with me through it. And in every moment of weakness, He proved Himself faithful. If my testimony has done anything, may it compel you to cling to Him with unwavering devotion, knowing that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion. Faithfulness to Yeshua is not measured by comfort—it is forged in adversity. The trials you face are not signs of abandonment, but invitations to deeper intimacy with the One who overcame the world. Rejection may come, persecution may rise, but the Life of Christ within you is unshakable. I urge you, beloved, do not let go. Let your roots grow deep in Him. Let your endurance be a witness. And let your faithfulness be mirrored in eternity, where the reward is not fleeting applause, but the eternal embrace of the King who sees, knows, and honors every step you take in His name. If my journey has stirred something in you—conviction, hope, or clarity—then I challenge you: don’t keep it to yourself. What you’ve received through the My Life Series is not meant to be stored away like sacred relics, but restacked, shared, and multiplied.
