Insights into 2 Corinthians Chapters 9-10 Between newsletters showing the prophetic significance of current events and other Biblical perspectives of interest, we proceed through the scriptures, a book at a time. This week, we are covering 2 Corinthians. Since Paul’s first letter, which tended to polarize the people, the Corinthian church listened to false teachers who turned the people against Paul. In response, Paul sent Titus to Corinth, where the majority then repented and returned to following Christ. This second letter is an expression of his thanks for the Corinthians' changed hearts and an appeal to the rebellious minority who haven’t. He again defends his conduct, character, and his calling as an apostle As we continue through the Word, please reference the Chapters in your Bible covered in this email. This email will not repeat the text but will add context, historical setting, and other significant meanings of the passages. It is highly recommended that you follow along with the most accurate Greek-to-English translation today, The Pure Word, but please feel free to use your preferred version of the Scriptures as well. However, they have not yet given one, and Paul is becoming concerned that, when the time comes, they might not make an offering large enough to match his earlier boast about the Corinthians. So, he reminds them of his boasting and urges them to collect the offering now, so that when he arrives, it will already be gathered and ready. v. 7-15: Paul wants to ensure that they give not because they are obliged to but because they are cheerful givers and wish to do so. Paul declares to them that “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” The more you give, the more you will receive. God will never be a debtor to man, so if you give to Him, He will take care of ALL your needs. The offering serves a twofold purpose: (1) to provide for the needs of those in need, and (2) when they receive it, they give thanks to God for the offering; therefore, the gift has the additional effect of creating a giving of thanks to God. They will, in turn, pray for you as you pray for them. 2 Corinthians Chapter 10 v. 1-6: Paul now addresses those who set themselves up as spiritual authorities and who spread false lies against him. They accused Paul of walking according to the flesh. Although we walk in the flesh (our physical bodies), we are fighting a spiritual war to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. The weapons of spiritual warfare are spiritual weapons. Paul discusses this further in Ephesians 6, emphasizing that we need to put on the whole armor of God: (1) Helmet of Salvation; (2) Sword of the Spirit (Word of God); (3) Shield of Faith; (4) Praying—let your requests be made known unto God (Phil 4:6). If you resist the devil, he will flee from you. The battlefield is in the imagination and thoughts of man. 1. Recognize that the enemy is attacking you 2. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you 3. Rejoice in the power of the Lord in answering your prayer v. 7-11: In defending himself, Paul tells the Corinthians that those in the body of Christ build up and edify each other. This contrasts with those in the church who are speaking against Paul, which would then tear down the body of Christ. You can tell where a person is from through their fruit. v. 12-18: You mustn't associate yourself with those who compare themselves to others to put them down, such as the false authorities who set themselves up and try to belittle Paul. Jesus Christ is the standard, and we are all sinful men; our only goal is for Him to work in us. We cannot boast about anything we do on our own, as all our actions are through Christ. If anyone glories, it should be in what the Lord has done. Do you Want to Know God More? We Must Read His Word.
