Uncle Sam, popular U.S. symbol usually associated with a cartoon figure having long white hair and chin whiskers and dressed in a swallow-tailed coat, vest, tall hat, and striped trousers. His appearance is derived from two earlier symbolic figures in American folklore—Brother Jonathan and Yankee Doodle.
The origin of the term Uncle Sam, though disputed, is usually associated with a businessman from Troy, N.Y., Samuel Wilson, known affectionately as “Uncle Sam” Wilson. The barrels of beef that he supplied the army during the War of 1812 were stamped “U.S.” to indicate government property. This identification is said to have led to the widespread use of the nickname Uncle Sam for the United States; and a resolution passed by Congress in 1961 recognized Wilson as the namesake of the national symbol.
Uncle Sam and his predecessor Brother Jonathan were used interchangeably to represent the United States by U.S. cartoonists from the early 1830s to 1861. Cartoonists of the British humour magazine Punch helped evolve the modern figure by their drawings of both Brother Jonathan and Uncle Sam as lean, whiskered gentlemen wearing top hats and striped pants. Probably the first U.S. political cartoonist to crystallize the figure of Uncle Sam was Thomas Nast, beginning in the early 1870s. One of the most familiar treatments in the 20th century was shown in James Montgomery Flagg’s World War I recruiting poster, also used in World War II, for which the caption read, “I Want You.”

Giving Into Passion

Giving Into Passion

Many times we hear people say, “God can’t be the ‘God of Love’ if He is going to let someone suffer.” “When the Bible says that God will ‘rescue you out of all your troubles,’ that really isn’t what it means.” “Obviously God has abandoned you.”
“Is it a dangerous thing to fall into the hands of God?” “Can He be trusted?” “Why would God stand back and allow the enemy to bruise His children?” “Lord, it isn’t supposed to be this way!”
Others will ask you why you keep praying, “You know God’s not listening.” “You’re forgotten, you’re nobody, He doesn’t care about you.” “You were better off before you met God.” Satan specializes in lies, confusion, desperation, and depression. He will move into your greatest weakness or need and throw his worst in our faces, then sit back to see what will happen.
Look, I may not always understand what is going on around me, but as far as I am concerned, it is lawful for Him to do whatever he desires with His own. I presume you agree that we do not serve Him from selfish interests. Are we going to cling to Him only in times of prosperity? If it is comes, are you willing to accept from His hand sorrow and suffering as well as joy? Will we accept good from God, and not trouble?
I say that because just as when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, when one approach didn’t work, he tried another, then another, steadily increasing the pressure, the seductiveness, and the subtlety of his strategies.
For instance even in the very best and strongest Christian marriages there will come times when either partner may view the other (however temporarily) as no longer a lovable or godly person. But married couples make the vow “for better or for worse.” Then, when it becomes worse and one’s spouse has a nervous breakdown or contracts some lingering terminal illness, there are few wives or husbands who will find in themselves a natural desire to keep on being smilingly supportive. Notice I said a natural desire. There is always an abundance of grace for those who reach out for it.
The horrible truth is that many who call themselves children of God, in one way or another, do indeed serve Him for the good they get in this present world and in the world to come. Rather than serving Him for Himself alone, and would curse Him to His face if they experience any trial of significant proportion. And yes, I am sadly thinking of several nationally know ministries. Sorry.
I don’t think anyone has said it better than John White:
“Our quest must be the quest of a suitor, a suitor too blinded by beauty to descend to calculating self interest; too intoxicated with love to care about the cost or the consequence of his suit. It must be the love of Mary, sitting at Jesus’ feet, enchanted by his words and grace, but deaf and blind to the frustration and fuss of her resentful sister (Luke 10:38-42). An enchantment of that sort will not be broken, nor its pleasures denied.
“It is time we threw spiritual pragmatism out of the window. We come habitually to God carrying shopping baskets and armed with a checklist of needed purchases when all the time He wants to put His arms around us and draw us to Himself. We know no other way. Custom and tradition have drilled us in the art of celestial bargain hunting. It is time we forgot about our spiritual performance and our spiritual needs and gave ourselves up to passion.”
In yesterday’s message (and with most of my messages), I presume you are truly interested in pursuing and honoring our Lord; to honestly cry out to our Father. If I am correct, then we need to take His instructions to heart and apply them to every area of our lives and, as John White described, “give ourselves up to passion.”

You Can Say NO, You Know

You Can Say NO, You Know

Lately I have been hearing some stories mostly about ministers, pastors who either quit or are considering leaving the ministry. They are simply doing w-a-a-a-a-y too much. The problem is they either don’t know how to say, “No,” or they don’t know how to flow in the power of the Holy Spirit.
I remember a story David Wilkerson told about a time when he was working for Kathryn Kuhlman. He had preached his heart out at her meetings. They would start in morning and continue on into the evening. As you can probably understand, they were wiped out.
Well, one night Kuhlman asked David and his wife to go out and get something to eat. David declined, saying “I’m too tired. I’ve got to go to the motel and get some sleep.”
She raised her eyebrows and looked at him asking, “Did you preach under the Spirit’s unction tonight?” Of course David said he had. “You know I was anointed. The altars were filled!”
Then Kathryn said quietly, “Then you’re missing something. If you’re ministering under the power of the Holy Ghost, you should be stronger at the end of service than when you started—because he is a quickening Spirit! You can rise above your flesh, because by the Spirit you can claim that freedom.”
I still remember that, and from my own experience, I can assure you that she was correct. That’s why I wonder about those pastors who are becoming overworked and burned out. Oh, it’s not just full-time ministers who are having difficulty. I have heard the same confession coming from lay-ministers who are involved in various outreaches and ministries.
Don’t allow people to pull you into something your Father has not called you to — or make you feel guilty because you won’t participate in a particular task (or won’t minister to their needs) when the Lord has not given you the “green light” to get involved. Some of us still have not learned to know our limits and to say, “No.” Or if we do say, “No,” we feel we have to justify why we can’t (then we make up some lame excuse). Jesus said, “Let your yes be yes, and your no, be no.” There is no need to elaborate on the reason.
But as I was saying, if you don’t recognize and acknowledge your limitations — and set up boundaries — you are going to fry your brain and burn out physically and spiritually. Then you will develop a spirit of resentment to the ministry and to the people you are supposed to be ministering to.
Just take a deep breath and allow the Spirit of God to guide and direct you. He knows very well how big your heart is, and how you want to help everyone, but they will benefit more from your work if you will simply wait for the Lord to show you what to do and when to do it!
If someone gets upset or angry or frustrated about it, let the Lord deal with them. He will minister to them. Your own responsibility is the obey the Lord. Wait for His guidance. Move when He says you are to move. But also, when He says to move, don’t hold back and resist His call to minister. Again, the call is for you to Trust and to Obey.
Oh Father, you know our hearts. You know our desires to help, but there are only so many hours in the day. Please help us to be slow to respond when someone asks us to do something. Help us to wait o Your guidance and your leading to get involved. We truly understand that You want our best as well as theirs, and we fully trust you.

The Obama Liberal Media Lapdogs Now Calls Netanyahu A “Racist” For Pro-Israel Stance

The Obama Liberal Media Lapdogs Now Calls Netanyahu A “Racist” For Pro-Israel Stance

| March 18, 2015 | 18 Comments

As soon as Netanyahu emerges victorious in Israel, Obama’s adoring media use their favorite weapon — you guessed it, the race card!

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” Psalm 2:1-3 (KJV)
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Obama Administration, having failed in their attempt to disrupt Netanyahu’s reelection campaign, now turns to the only weapon they have left. Personal attacks and smears delivered from the Obama camp through the hands of an ever-so-willing, far left, progressive liberal media fake news machine.
The left wing media is declaring Bibi a racist after the tactical units, sent by Obama, failed in their attempt to sabotage the elections in Israel. It’s bad enough that these left wing Obamanites approve of the White House meddling in another country’s elections, but to call Bibi Netanyahu a racist is incomprehensible.
These same lame stream media nuts refuse to report when rockets are lobbed into Israel, or buses explode, killing many Israelis. Last summer, when Hamas was hurling rocket after rocket into Israel, the president’s cheer leaders would only report on the damage done in Gaza to their homes, and when Hamas used human shields (even children) and there was a loss of life – that is what these news agencies would report — never speaking of Israel having to defend themselves.

Today, the narrative is that Bibi Netanyahu is a racist, because he was upset that Arabs were being bused into the voting sites.
The narrative was clearly given to these people by the White House: report that Israel is killing Palestinians. Report that Israel is doing this with no provocation. And they gladly follow his orders.
The NY Times reported today: He railed against Israeli Arabs — because they had gone out to vote. From the capitals of Europe, to Washington, to the streets of Israel, even while his critics said that he had reaffirmed his reputation as a cynical, calculating politician, it appeared that his approach succeeded in winning votes from other right-leaning parties.
He said that if his Likud Party won Tuesday’s national elections, he would never allow the creation of a Palestinian state, a reversal of a stance he had taken six years earlier. That risked further damaging his already frayed relations with the Obama administration after a confrontation over Iran and increasing European frustration with Israel.
Mr. Netanyahu’s conflict with the White House became a campaign issue, with critics saying that it alone undermined Israel’s security. Washington is Israel’s most important ally, providing crucial financial and diplomatic support.”
In interviews with the Israeli news media that Mr. Netanyahu usually shuns, he complained of a conspiracy of left-wing organizations funded from abroad and foreign governments out to topple him. source
How many times must PM Netanyahu have to reiterate that no peace initiative will ever be considered while the Palestinian Authority repeatedly refuses to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist? Is this hard to understand? I am glad that he took this stance against a two state solution. There are no signs that the Palestinian Authority will ever acknowledge Israel’s right to exist.
The NY Times titled their article about the Likud Party’s win with these words:
“Deep Wounds and Lingering Questions After Israel’s Bitter Race”
It certainly was not “Bitter” to the millions of people who love Israel. Actually, it was rather ‘sweet.’
Am Yisrael Chai!

Starbucks ‘Race Together’ Campaign Attempts To Cash In On America’s Racial Tensions

Starbucks ‘Race Together’ Campaign Attempts To Cash In On America’s Racial Tensions

| March 18, 2015 | 4 Comments

A senior Starbucks executive says he was attacked online after the coffee chain began a campaign this week encouraging baristas to talk about race relations with customers.

I felt personally attacked in a cascade of negativity,” Corey duBrowa, the senior vice president of communications at Starbucks, wrote in a post on Medium on Tuesday. DuBrowa blocked several Twitter users Monday before deactivating his account.

Hmm, looks like Starbucks forgot to add some “color” to their new anti-racism ad campaign.
I got overwhelmed by the volume and tenor of the discussion, and I reacted,” he wrote. “Most of all, I was concerned about becoming a distraction from the respectful conversation around Race Together that we have been trying to create.”
“Race Together” is what Starbucks is calling its new campaign. Critics have attacked the campaign on social media, saying Starbucks is trying to capitalize on racial tensions in the US.
Some of those critics tweeted their concerns directly to duBrowa on Monday. And after he deleted his account, critics accused him of stifling the discussion around race relations that Starbucks’ new campaign was said to want to initiate. source

Will Obama Recognize Palestine As Punishment For Netanyahu Reelection Victory?

Will Obama Recognize Palestine As Punishment For Netanyahu Reelection Victory?

| March 18, 2015 | 18 Comments

Does Obama hate Benjamin Netanyahu enough to take the biggest gamble of his presidency and declare Palestine as a nation to spite him?

“Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.” Psalm 129:5 (KJV)
Despite a very diligent effort to marginalize Netanyahu and disrupt his reelection campaign, US President Barack Hussein Obama was unsuccessful in deposing the Israeli Prime Minister. But as president of the most powerful nation on the face of the earth, Obama has a few more tricks up his sleeve. One of them is quite nasty indeed.

Will Obama recognize Palestine as revenge against Netanyahu?
The AP reports today that the Obama administration signaled on Wednesday it could take a tougher stance toward Benjamin Netanyahu following his decisive Israeli election victory and campaign tack to the right, saying there will be consequences for his sudden reversal on the idea of an independent Palestinian state.
While senior American officials said the administration was still evaluating options, they suggested the U.S. could ease its staunch opposition to Palestinians turning to the UN Security Council to create a state.
There are policy ramifications for what he said,” one official said of Netanyahu’s campaign rhetoric rejecting the creation of a Palestinian state. “This is a position of record.”
The regathered nation of Israel was officially recognized on May 14, 1948 by US President Harry S. Truman, and immediately other nations reluctantly followed his lead. All it would take would be the stroke of Obama’s treasonous pen to gathered the supported needed at the United Nations to recognize the mythical land of Palestine as a nation in 2015.

Does Obama hate Benjamin Netanyahu enough to take the biggest gamble of his presidency and declare Palestine as a nation to spite him? I think you already know the answer to that question.
The plans are already in the works.
