TRANSCRIPT

Church Militant (a 501(c)4 corporation) is responsible for the content of this commentary.

There is no doubt — no doubt whatsoever — that the very existence of America is on the line this coming November. For Catholics, most of whom have homogenized into a barely warmed-over pagan culture, this might not be on their radar.

It will, however, be front and center if the communist Democrats and their demonic duo of Biden and Harris win. The Marxist Democrats have all the pieces in place to topple whatever remaining vestiges of freedom and the so-called American dream remain.

Interestingly, among the various immigrant and credal populations that seized hold of the American dream were Catholics. They came to America by the millions during the influx of immigration around the Industrial Revolution and integrated better than any other group. As it turns out, they integrated too well.

After massive discrimination and killings and exploitation, they survived and eventually thrived. They fought off enormous hatred from the ruling Protestant class and made their way against pretty steep odds. Perhaps the single hallmark achievement of the Catholic struggle was Catholic education and, eventually, the crown jewel: the Catholic university.

Until the Sexual Revolution of the Marxists in the 1960s, Catholic universities and colleges turned out leaders, visionaries, men and women who would be able to shape the course of history, informed by their Catholic faith. But that all changed almost overnight — almost overnight

Remember, this revolution was embraced by Catholic colleges and universities across the nation during the Sexual Revolution.Tweet

While Fr. Theodore Hesburgh had lots of help in overthrowing Catholicism at Catholic schools, it was his personal efforts that served as catalyst to the whole movement. In 1967, Hesburgh pushed a document known as the "Land O' Lakes Statement" which destroyed the Faith on Catholic campuses all over the country.

The major author of the document was homopredator Theodore McCarrick — a man who seems to have had his fingers in every single effort to blow up the Church. Secular schools were doing the same, but those were secular, not Catholic.

Nonetheless, for the Marxists to make strides under the Catholic umbrella was a level of success even they had only hoped for. Generations of subversives were born of the Sexual Revolution — the only fertile aspect of that movement.

Millions of graduates were unleashed in the world of academia, science, the Church, the courts, government, business — all trained to destroy. And each year, their numbers increased, until today: They are in near-total control. Boardrooms all over the country have been taken over; human resources departments, senior management and so forth.

As the BLM protests and violence have engulfed certain American cities, giant businesses actually cheered them on and financed them. Look at the donors list of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation. It reads like the Fortune 500: Amazon, Microsoft, Nabisco, Gatorade, Deckers and other large American firms.

In his 2001 book, The Long March: How the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s Changed America, Roger Kimball said those students from the 1960s (and following) have graduated, and they are now part of the government and large corporations, subverting Western culture from within.

That book is 20 years old. It's only gotten much worse. And to prove the point, many of you know that Church Militant got deplatformed by Vimeo (our video hosting service) earlier this year. Just this past weekend, we learned that Amazon has removed Church Militant as a recipient of charitable donations from their purchases.

So if you have been funneling a portion of your purchases to Church Militant through the "AmazonSmile" program, that is now over. If you are a faithful Catholic, you are being stood up and mowed down — even from within the Church.

For example, former Notre Dame Fighting Irish national championship coach Lou Holtz publicly castigated phony Catholic Joe Biden for his phony Catholicism. That, of course, brought down the ire of the emasculated president of Notre Dame, a weak excuse of a man — Fr. John Jenkins — who rushed to Biden's defense and torched Holtz for calling out the fake Catholic.

Holtz forgot to mention Fr. Jenkins as another fake Catholic. Jenkins said we should never judge the sincerity of someone's faith. But he did just that when he gave the university's highest award to Biden in 2016, the Laetare Medal, given to an American Catholic "whose genius has ennobled the arts and sciences, illustrated the ideals of the Church and enriched the heritage of humanity."

Yeah, that's Joe all over. As long as you made it past the abortionist's razor-blade vacuum-suction machine slicing you to ribbons, then you could be a witness to his genius upholding the ideals of the Church. Do any of these men realize they are on the road to Hell — to eternal damnation? Probably not. Not as long as Barron and company keep whispering in their ear they have a reasonable hope of being saved. (They don't.)

Too many U.S. bishops are part of the Marxist plot to overthrow America.Tweet

This entire crowd of anti-God and anti-American subversives keeps telling us America is evil and must be punished for our sins. Systemic racism is the rule of the day, multimillionaire athletes (most of whom are black) keep saying.

They make tens of millions of dollars for playing with a ball on a court or a field. And yet, somehow, they are discriminated against — deprived of the American dream. Fellas, shut up. All lives matter, especially the lives of the preborn. Most especially the lives of the preborn because they are the most defenseless.

In fact, what percentage of these black athletes, crying about violence towards blacks, have actually murdered their own children through abortion (thus directly attacking the lives of black Americans)? These athletes possess enormous fortunes, fortunes which provide them with lives of however much sex they want.

How many abuse women and then murder the black children in the wombs of those women? So please forgive us if we roll our eyes at your hypocrisy of holding your fists in the air and ignoring the blood running down your own arms.

This past August, Catholic attorney general William Barr laid out the plan of the Left in an interview with Mark Levin. So how is it that a faithful lay Catholic like Barr can see this and say it but Catholic bishops can't? Oh yeah, that simple little word: "Faithful." Most of the bishops are not, and the laity speaking the truth are.

It's just that simple. Remember, this revolution was embraced by Catholic colleges and universities across the nation during the Sexual Revolution. The bishops today, the heirs of the original wicked bishops, have done nothing to prevent the evil from spreading (and, in some notable cases, have worked to advance it).

As Our Blessed Lord said to the wicked religious leaders of His time, "How can any of you escape damnation?" Too many U.S. bishops are part of the Marxist plot to overthrow America because America must be taken off the board in order for them to achieve global dominance.

Yeah, this election is that important. It is, in fact, for all the marbles.

RICHMOND, Va. (ChurchMilitant.com) - A Virginia priest is speaking freely about his suspension from ministry owing to his blog, which addresses the hierarchy's mishandling of clergy sex abuse.

Father Mark White reflected on his suspension from ministry and the need for open discussion in a column published Sunday by the Star-Ledger, New Jersey's most circulated newspaper.

"I am glad they decided to publish my op-ed in Newark, where McCarrick had been archbishop for so long," Fr. White told Church Militant. "Hopefully this will continue a conversation about getting the full truth out."

"All of us who have been affected by his dishonesty need an accounting of who knew what and when," he added.

Bishop Barry Knestout of Richmond suspended Fr. White in May over the priest's blog, which was critical of the Church's handling of predators in the clergy.

"Until recently, I was the pastor of two parishes in southwest Virginia, one in Martinsville and the other in Rocky Mount," White explained. "I began blogging in 2008 as an additional way of reaching the faithful. For the first decade, my digital homilies and musings attracted little attention outside my parishes."

"In 2018, though, like many Catholics, I was shaken when news emerged of sexual abuse by Cdl. Theodore McCarrick, the archbishop of Washington," he continued.

Revelations of McCarrick's abuse were particularly galling for White, as the now-disgraced ex-cardinal had ordained him in 2003.

"When I learned of McCarrick's misbehavior and the surrounding cover-up, I was deeply upset. I had received Holy Orders from a criminal — and felt a responsibility to explore how my Church had failed," White lamented. "On my blog, I began to question and criticize Catholic leadership."

The restoration of your priestly faculties ... will be dependent on your taking down your blog.Tweet

Father White pointed out the faithful are to speak the truth freely.

"Unfortunately, Bp. Barry Knestout, the leader of the diocese of Richmond, does not appear to agree," he said. "In Nov. 2019, he ordered me to remove my blog from the internet. I initially complied. But when the pandemic hit, I felt it was important to connect with my parishioners online. I resumed posting this past March."

This led Bp. Knestout, in April, to oust Fr. White from his parish and prison work.

"While this is important work, Knestout's intention was to punish and silence me, as he indicated when he wrote that 'the restoration of your priestly faculties ... will be dependent on your taking down your blog,'" ventured White. "I appealed to the Vatican and was awaiting an answer when Knestout prohibited me from practicing ministry in any form."

"He even changed the locks on the two churches I served, which include my living quarters," he added. "I have no other home in the area, and my mother resides in an assisted living facility nearby. At this point, I have to rely on the kindness of parishioners."

The faithful deserve a forthright conversation that would allow the Church to reckon with its past and prevent abuse in the future.Tweet

Father White sees his problems as nothing compared to those in which the Church is currently immersed.

"The faithful deserve a forthright conversation that would allow the Church to reckon with its past and prevent abuse in the future," he said. "To respond to that call with dictates for silence is to repeat the mistakes of the last two decades."

Uncertain of his own future as a priest, Fr. White is certain that "We need people speaking the truth freely in the Catholic Church more than ever."

Bishop Knestout's Clerical Career

Bishop Barry Knestout grew up in Washington, D.C.

Before being installed as bishop of Richmond in 2018, Knestout served as disgraced ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick's personal secretary.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl ordained Knestout a bishop in 2008 in Washington, D.C., where he served Wuerl as an auxiliary bishop.

As bishop of Richmond, Knestout doubled down in January when faithful Catholics opposed him for allowing St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Virginia to be used for the Protestant "consecration" of Susan Bunton Haynes to the Episcopal bishopric.

"Use of space in a Catholic parish for the Episcopal Church to conduct their own religious ceremony is well within the accepted ecumenical teachings and norms of the Church," he said in a statement at the time. "I appreciate that you are concerned that the sacred space of the Catholic Church be safeguarded, which it is."

Knestout served as disgraced ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick's personal secretary.Tweet

When enough backlash forced Haynes to withdraw (in a letter) from using St. Bede, Knestout expressed remorse.

"It is with great sadness that I have received a letter from bishop-elect Susan Haynes stating that, due to the controversy of the proposed use of St. Bede Catholic Church for her consecration ... she has decided to find another location for the ceremony to take place," he said in another statement.

Knestout concluded the statement by saying, "As I assure bishop-elect Haynes of my prayers ... I ask our Catholic faithful to pray for them, too, and to pray that the fruits of the Holy Spirit, along with humility, kindness, gentleness and joy be expressed and strengthened in all our faith communities."

Knestout permits a man in a so-called same-sex marriage to continue as an organist in the diocese and offers to pay victims of clergy sex abuse only if they agree not to sue the diocese.

Church Militant recently reached out to the Richmond diocese regarding Virginia's state health commissioner wanting to force vaccines but never received a response.

OXFORD, England (ChurchMilitant.com) - Scientists on two continents are decrying Wuhan-virus lockdowns for causing more harm than good.

Epidemiologists in England and a Nobel Prize-winning structural biologist in California have been spotlighting the adverse consequences of quarantine.

Epidemiologists: United Kingdom

"While the number of deaths in care homes and hospitals remains below the average, the number in private homes remains higher than the five-year average. There were 727 more deaths in private homes in the week ending the 30th of July," said Professor Carl Heneghan, an epidemiologist and director of evidence-based medicine at the University of Oxford.

Image
Professor Carl Heneghan

"Deaths at home have been almost 40% higher than the number registered with COVID-19 in any other setting in the last six weeks, (4,526 versus 2,799)," he continued. "It is not clear why there is such an excess of deaths in the home but one thing is clear: It is not COVID. Fewer than 5% of deaths in private homes are due to the virus."

Heneghan explained that these deaths are unexplained and seem to center largely around people who avoided the hospital so as not to put pressure on the National Health Service (NHS).

"Analysis of NHS data reveals the deadly consequences of the government's messaging to 'stay at home, save lives, protect the NHS,'" he explained. "During the lockdown, there was a near 50% decline in admissions for heart attacks. The risks of COVID-19 outweighed the risk of seeking NHS care despite worsening symptoms for many people: 40% more people died from lower-risk treatable heart attacks than usual."

The situation for strokes is worse, according to Heneghan, since 98% of stroke-related emergency calls are made by somebody other than that the victim of the stroke.

The professor went on to cite a government report that suggests 200,000 people could die owing to delays in health care along with the social and economic consequences of lockdown.

Another epidemiologist weighed in last week.

Mark Woolhouse is professor of infectious disease epidemiology at Edinburgh University in Scotland and a member of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviors that advises the government of the United Kingdom.

He lamented:

I suspect right now more people are being harmed by the collateral effects of lockdown than by COVID-19. I never want to see national lockdown again. It was always a temporary measure that simply delayed the stage of the epidemic we see now.

It was never going to change anything fundamentally, however low we drove down the number of cases, and now we know more about the virus and how to track it. We should not be in this position again.

At the time I agreed with lockdown as a short-term emergency response because we couldn't think of anything better to do, but it was always clear that the moment we started to relax enough measures we were likely to see infection rates rise again either nationally or locally.

Hindsight being 20/20,  he added, "My hope was that we would have learned how to handle the virus better so lockdown would no longer be necessary."

An American Biologist

Michael Levitt, Nobel Prize-winning structural biology professor at Stanford University in California, has been tracking the Wuhan virus since late January.

Image

"I think closing schools, closing business and places of work is not such a great idea and causes huge damage to the economy," he said. "It's wicked to people in the economy, because if you're a gardener or you own a restaurant, you can't work from home. These people have been very badly hit."

But Levitt noted how losses for some have been gains for others, saying, "I think that the retail sector in the United States is not going to recover, which has been a great gift to Amazon."

"It's also very unfair to the younger people and to the disadvantaged people — people have not fully estimated some negative results of the lockdown," Levitt explained. "Suicides, for example, have increased dramatically in certain locations, along with marital abuse, child abuse and addiction."

"Tobacco use has increased very substantially, and that is going to end up killing people. If people smoke 5% more, it would result in many more deaths than all the COVID-19 deaths by far," he continued.

Echoing Professor Heneghan's observations, Levitt said "a lot of people chose not to go to hospitals for regular treatments. So how many cancers were we exacerbating? How many strokes happened? How many children have [been] paralyzed because they have hyperglycemia?"

I think closing schools, closing business and places of work is not such a great idea and causes huge damage to the economy.Tweet

Summarizing a main theme running through the scientific commentary, Heneghan concluded, "When it comes to COVID-19, the real threat is not the disease; it's how we react to the emerging information."

GERMAN BISHOPS VOTING ON CATHOLIC TEACHING

Racing toward schism along the synodal way

BERLIN (ChurchMilitant.com) - German bishops are putting up for a vote Catholic teachings on human sexuality and ordinary language as they continue full steam ahead with the so-called synodal way.

The German bishops are scheduled to vote Friday on a four-page working document containing 11 proposals, some of which seek to redefine ordinary words to work around biological facts and authentic Church teaching to "support everyone in living their sexuality."

Key Concepts Redefined

"Fertility is more than the ability to create new life, which is only possible in the sexual communion of a man and a woman," reads the third proposal up for vote. "Same-sex couples and other couples who cannot conceive a new life also have the potential for a fruitful life."

This third proposal adds an "alternative" phrasing: "Since couples have children, their biological fertility automatically also has a social dimension. Understood in this sense, couples without children can also become fertile in a social sense."

News Report: Bishops Rebuke German 'Synodal Way'

The fourth proposal speaks of strengthening "aspects of Catholic sexual teaching," without mentioning any specific Catholic moral teachings on human sexuality. The proposal claims Church teaching on sexual matters represents "important orienting values" such as "permanence, loyalty, exclusivity and consensus between responsible persons" and  "sexual experiences based on partnership [that] are always embedded in a loving relationship."

"We want to support everyone in living their sexuality conscientiously, responsibly and self-determinedly before God," states the fifth proposal. "It is the task of the church to accompany believers in their formation of conscience and in questions of lifestyle ... ."

Same-sex couples and other couples who cannot conceive a new life also have the potential for a fruitful life.Tweet

The eighth proposal suggests seeing marriage "as the preferred, but not only" way "to live love and sexuality in [a] relationship," setting the stage for the ninth proposal to "appreciate different sexual orientations and gender identities," along with "permanent" relationships such people form.

In fact, Catholic teaching on sexuality forbids sexual activity of all kinds outside of marriage between one man and one woman, emphasizing chastity as a virtue which, when practiced, increases human happiness through self-mastery and increased freedom to obey God. It also forbids rejecting one's birth-assigned gender because of its personal and social impact:

Everyone, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity. Physical, moral, and spiritual difference and complementarity are oriented toward the goods of marriage and the flourishing of family life. The harmony of the couple and of society depends in part on the way in which the complementarity, needs, and mutual support between the sexes are lived out.

The "synodal way" or "synodal path" is a two-year project in Germany to reconsider Church teaching on a host of topics such as an all-male priesthood and sexual morality. The project was launched on the first Sunday of Advent, 2019.

Pope Supports 'Synodal Way'

The head of the German Bishops' Conference claims Pope Francis is pleased with the synodal way. After meeting with the pontiff June 27, Bp. Georg Bätzing, the chairman, said, "I feel encouraged by the intensive exchange with the Holy Father to continue on the path I have chosen. The pope appreciates this project, which he connects closely with the term 'synodality' that he coined."

He reported that the pope was happy to receive up-to-date details and the bishops' plans for the future.

"It was important to me to make it clear that the Church in Germany is going this way and that it is always bound to the Universal Church," he added.

There are several German prelates who are warning against the dangers of the synodal way.

The pope appreciates this project, which he connects closely with the term 'synodality' that he coined.Tweet

Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki of Cologne said in February that "the synodal path had installed a form of Protestant church parliament, and delegates who were skeptical of the reform process had found it comparatively difficult to have their say."

"My impression is that much of what belongs to theological doctrine is no longer shared here with us, and instead, one believes that one can shape the Church in a completely new and different way," he added.

"Without any consideration for the genuine sources of faith and revelation — namely, Scripture and Tradition — the Church is supposed to reinvent itself, so to speak," said former apostolic nuncio to Germany, Abp. Erwin Josef Ender, in June.
