Nancy Pelosi and Democrats Block Bill to Ban Taxpayer-Funded Abortions 35 Times

The count is now at 35 times over the last 8 days. That’s how many times Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Democrat colleagues in the House have blocked a request from Republicans on the House floor to have a vote on a bill to ban taxpayer-funding of abortions.

Five members of the House asked for a vote on the pro-life bill yesterday and each of them were denied the request by Pelosi and Democrats in the chair. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN), Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT), Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), and Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) all tried to secure a vote on the bill but were denied.

A few of the members took to twitter to voice their displeasure after Pelosi and Democrats rejected their request.

The Hyde Amendment saves the lives of unborn children and protects the conscience rights of taxpayers. Today I asked unanimous consent that the House consider the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act to preserve this commonsense provision. House Democrats denied my request,” Walorski said afterwards.

Lesko added: “I rushed to the House Floor to stand up for life & ask unanimous consent to discharge H.R. 18 to the House floor for a full vote! Taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize a practice that destroys the dignity of life & millions of unborn babies.”

On Wednesday, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA), and Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) each asked for a vote on the bill and each were denied their request by Pelosi and company.

Each day over the last week, multiple pro-life Republican House members have asked the House for unanimous consent to bring the pro-life bill to the floor for a vote. Each time, Democrats have refused.

The bill would make the Hyde Amendment permanent law and protect taxpayers from being forced to fund the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

The Hyde Amendment, which has strong public support, prohibits taxpayer funding for elective abortions in Medicaid and other federal programs. Since 1976, it has saved an estimated 2.4 million babies’ lives, including about 60,000 each year, according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute.

Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) spoke in favor of the bill, saying, “For me, a pro-life father of four, a huge part of my story is my son Isaac. Isaac was born with Down syndrome. I know that with our love and support, he is capable of moving mountains.”

The sad news is that many don’t believe that people like my son deserve a right to life or to reach their full potential.

This is why I am a cosponsor of legislation like H.R. 18, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. This bill will help ensure that taxpayer dollars do not go toward taking away any child’s right to life.

Imagine a world where every child was given the opportunity to dream, accomplish, and succeed. The world would be a much better place, our future brighter than ever.

That is why I will always support legislation that ensures every life is protected.

Rep. Ron Estes, of Kansas, pointed out that Democrat leaders’ pro-abortion demands are “radical” and out of touch with the American people.

“The left continues to push radical and unscientific policies that end the lives of unborn babies. And what’s worse, they want to pay for their abortion-on-demand policies with your tax dollars,” Estes said.

He said polls consistently show that most Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortions. In January, a Marist poll found 58 percent of Americans oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions in the U.S. Additionally, 77 percent oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions in other countries.

Pro-abortion Democrats claim taxpayer-funded abortions are needed to help low-income women, but a Harvard/Politico poll found strong opposition to their plan among the very people who these politicians claim to want to help.

According to the poll, voters who make more than $75,000 were more supportive of forcing taxpayers to fund abortions (45 percent in favor), while those who make $25,000 or less were strongly against it (24 percent in favor).

Smith, the lead sponsor of the bill, quoted President Joe Biden who, up until his presidential campaign, was a supporter of the Hyde Amendment, too.

The Hyde Amendment “’protects both the woman & her unborn child… I have consistently (no fewer than 50 occasions) voted against federal funding for abortions. Those of us opposed to abortion should not be compelled to pay for them,’” Smith quoted.

He said unborn babies have been denied their rights for far too long.

“By reason of their age, dependency, maturity, convenience, fragility and unwantedness, unborn children have been denied justice,” Smith continued.

For decades, most Republican and Democrat lawmakers supported the Hyde Amendment as a regular part of the budget. However, Democrats recently abandoned the public on the issue and sided with the billion-dollar abortion industry in calling for forced taxpayer-funded abortions. Biden’s proposed 2022 budget specifically excludes the pro-life measure.

Democrats also blocked Republicans’ request to vote on the bill Wednesday and Thursday.

Research by Charlotte Lozier Institute associate scholar Dr. Michael New estimates the Hyde Amendment has saved about 2.4 million babies from abortions. Prior to the amendment, in the 1970s, Americans paid for about 300,000 unborn babies’ abortion deaths each year, according to a report from the Family Research Council.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards Signs Pro-Life Bill to Save Babies From Abortion

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards today signed a key pro-life bill to help women and save babies from abortion.

The Louisiana legislature approved a handful of pro-life bills to protect unborn babies and mothers from abortion, including one informing mothers of the life-saving abortion pill reversal protocol.

The Abortion Pill Reversal Disclosure Act (House Bill 578), sponsored by state Rep. Beryl Amedee, R-Houma, received overwhelming support in a 31-7 vote in the Senate. The state House previously passed the bill in a 71-27 vote.

The bill adds information about the abortion pill reversal protocol to state informed consent requirements. It requires abortion facilities to inform women that the first abortion drug in medication abortions may be reversed and their unborn baby’s life may be saved if they change their mind about the abortion between pills.

Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that he has signed HB 578, the Abortion Pill Reversal Disclosure Act, giving every woman the right to change her mind after her chemical abortion and possibly save her baby.

Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, told LifeNews.com that he appreciated the governor signing the bill.

He said: “We are excited that the Abortion Pill Reversal Disclosure Act is now law. Every woman receiving a chemical abortion will now know that she can talk to a doctor if she regrets her abortion to see if options are available to help her continue the pregnancy and save her baby. More than 2,000 babies have been saved across America thanks to the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol, and we expect even more babies to be born thanks to this legislation.”

Clapper told LifeNews the bill requires that when a physician or agent thereof administers mifepristone (the first abortion pill in the chemical/medical abortion process) to a pregnant woman, he must provide a disclosure statement letting her know that if, after taking the first pill she regrets the abortion, she should consult a physician or healthcare provider immediately to determine if there are options available to help sustain her pregnancy.

He said the info can be stapled to the bag, envelope, or other package that contains misoprostol (the second abortion pill) for the pregnant woman to take at home or attached to the patient’s discharge instructions if the prescription for misoprostol is sent directly to a pharmacy.

“I led the Abortion Pill Reversal Disclosure Act on the Senate floor because I want women who regret their abortion to check with their doctor to see if they can save their baby,” said state Sen. Beth Mizell after the bill passed. “Every life is precious, and I want to help every woman get the life-saving information they need.”

The bill would require abortion facilities to tell women the following: “Research has indicated that the first pill provided, identified as mifepristone, is not always effective in ending a pregnancy. If after taking the first pill you regret your decision, please consult a physician or health care provider immediately to determine if there are options available to assist you in continuing your pregnancy.”

The abortion pill reversal protocol has been credited with saving more than 2,000 babies’ lives, and research indicates that it is safe and effective. Indiana passed a similar law in April.

Louisiana is a strong pro-life state. Last fall, 65 percent of its voters approved the Love Life Amendment, which amends the state constitution to declare that there is no constitutional right to abortion or taxpayer funding of abortion.

Martin Luther King Jr’s Niece Alveda King: All People are Created Equal, Including Unborn Babies

On July 4th, as we celebrate Independence Day this year, I can’t help believing that if we can finally see ourselves as the one blood hu(e)man race, many of our problems including abortion, racism, which lives matter, critical race theory, systemic racism, and all human injustices will be resolved.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” – Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776

Here in the 21st century, we the governed need to speak up to the government we entrusted with its power. We need to let them know that babies in the womb are among those “men” who were created equal, and that to kill them in the womb is to deny them their inalienable right to life.

Obviously not all men and women were equal in America when Thomas Jefferson penned those words that were adopted by the 2nd Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. Blacks were still being held as slaves; Jefferson himself owned slaves. Native Americans would spend the next 100 years being dispossessed of their land. Women couldn’t vote and had virtually no rights independent of their fathers and husbands.

Even years later, when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, the job was not complete. More progress was accomplished months later on Juneteenth, June 19, 1865.

Anyone who doubts that we’ve come a long way is just plain wrong. In America, one class of individuals is no better off than they were in 1776 and 1865. The unborn. They are the one group deprived of their birthright, and their birthday. Among those tiny, innocent victims, black babies are the worst off.

Some know that abortion disproportionately impacts the Black community. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control’s Abortion Surveillance Report for 2018 – the most recent available – 335 Black babies were killed by abortion for every 1,000 who were born. By comparison, the numbers for white women, “other” women and Latinas were 110, 213 and 158, respectively.

It’s also no secret that businesses selling abortion love to set up in minority communities. This year Planned Parenthood disingenuously separated itself from its founder, Margaret Sanger, a eugenicist who seemed intent on making sure Black babies never made it out of the womb, but the fact remains that the nation’s biggest abortion seller gives lip service to the Black Lives Matter movement while snuffing out hundreds of Black lives every day.

What’s to be done?

For starters, we can push for and support legislation in the states that protect babies from abortion based on race. Currently six states ban abortions sought because of the race of the baby but the laws are in effect in only three – Arizona, Mississippi and Tennessee. The rest have fallen to court challenges.

At Priests for Life we’ve initiated a new campaign: My Heart Beats Just Like Yours, giving voices to babies in the womb whose beating hearts tell us that life has clearly begun.

When we entrust our government to represent our wishes, we don’t want late-term abortion or any legal abortion. God says: “Choose life.”  Yet, there’s a bill in Congress right now, the Women’s Health Protection Act, S. 1975/H.R. 3755, that would negate virtually every restriction on abortion at every level of government. Abortion on demand would be available at any stage in a pregnancy, including beyond viability. We cannot stand for this.

There is one critical race; the hu(e)man race; this includes the babies in the womb. It is wrong to discriminate against the critical human race for any reason; including skin color and gestational age. Further, we are not colorblind.

We must learn to see and love each other as the human race; the human family; from womb to tomb.

If we truly believe the right to life is unalienable and that the government serves with power we the people have given them, it’s well past time that we right these unconscionable wrongs and let freedom ring for everyone.
