Abuse and cover-up have marred the Catholic Church, and traditional communities aren't exempt. In tonight's In-Depth Report, senior producer Christine Niles exposes "trad" abuse on the Dark Continent.

Bishop Bernard Fellay has never owned up to facilitating sex abuse.

Longtime former head of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) — a breakaway traditional priestly group — Fellay routinely transferred predator priests to new assignments, where they often went on to abuse again.

Case in point: Fr. Damian Carlile, an Australian priest who got his early start in the 1990s at the SSPX mission in Gabon, Africa.

Jacques: "I know at least six other victims, but they don't want to talk. I know that many of us have been abused."

One of his alleged victims, given the alias "Jacques," revealed Carlile's modus operandi.

Jacques: "It was Damian who started the sexual touching on me, around 1992 or 1993. … It started when we went to the beach. First, very discreetly, giving me my towel and helping me to wipe myself, he took the opportunity to touch my private parts."

Carlile worked in tandem with Fr. Patrick Groche, superior of the Gabonese mission and longtime collaborator with SSPX founder Abp. Marcel Lefebvre.

François: "I was sexually abused by Fr. Patrick Groche, a close collaborator of Abp. Lefebvre and founder of the St. Pius X mission in Gabon. The events occurred in Gabon in Libreville, but also in France, in his family home in Besançon, and also in a Society school."

Bishop Fellay knew about abuse allegations against both priests as far back as the 2000s and did what he always does — hiding them away for a time before restoring them to priestly ministry.

He has a track record of doing this.

He did it with Fr. Philippe Peignot, found guilty by an SSPX canonical court of abusing multiple boys in France.

He did it with Fr. Christophe Roisnel, found guilty of torturing and raping multiple teachers at a French SSPX academy.

He did it with Belgian priest Frédéric Abbet, a known pedophile Fellay placed under the same roof as boys (whom he abused).

And he did it with Fr. Damian Carlile, transferring him from Gabon to New Zealand, where the priest abused again.

All of this abuse can be placed directly at the feet of Bp. Fellay, yet he has never publicly acknowledged his role in destroying innocent lives and souls, continuing his pious façade in comfortable retirement at the $40 million SSPX seminary in Virginia.

Meanwhile, the victims whose lives he helped destroy are left to pick up the pieces.

Church Militant contacted Bp. Fellay for comment on this report. As usual, we were met with silence.

The eyes of the world are on Hungary — not just because of its high-stakes election on April 3, but also due to the country's "Hungary-first" approach as war rages across its border in Ukraine.

Church Militant's Martina Moyski tells us how this small central European country, the size of Indiana, is making big decisions for peace and its own survival.

Prime minister Viktor Orbán: "I will do my best to help Ukrainians because they have been attacked and are in trouble. ... We can do everything we can, but they cannot ask us to become bankrupt to help them."

Hungarians are heading to the polls on April 3 in what many are calling the most momentous election in 30 years. In one corner stands Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of the Fidesz party, seeking a fourth consecutive term. In the opposite corner is United for Hungary — an alliance of six opposition parties represented by Péter Márki-Zay.

A faux Catholic and self-identified conservative, Márki-Zay backs the European Union over Hungary and favors the LGBT agenda.

The campaign has been dominated by such issues, but now the handling of the Ukraine war has emerged as a key issue. Orbán has said, "We must prevent ourselves from being dragged into this war. ... This is not our war. ... We need peace," even while Hungary is taking in record numbers of refugees.

Orbán's position is under attack by the opposition, the West and the president of Ukraine himself.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, president, Ukraine: "Hungary, I want to stop here and be honest. ... You have to decide for yourself whom you are with."

While Márki-Zay is collaborating with leftist forces in Ukraine to topple Orbán, Hungary is defending its position.

Péter Szijjártó, minister of foreign affairs and trade, Hungary: "We decided not to send troops to the war, not to send weapons, and we do not allow weapon transit through Hungary. ... If we had decided in favor of any of these three, we would have put enormous risk on Hungary and Hungarian people."

The fate of Hungary is now in the hands of voters, as the country once again faces a historic moment.

Despite the Left's smear campaign to show Orbán as a puppet of Putin, polls are showing that most Hungarians want to keep their nation out of the war and protect its energy security.

Dramatically rising energy prices are center stage — a critical factor in nearly every family's budget as well as a key component in the Russia–Ukraine conflict. Church Militant's Kristine Christlieb drills down to examine Biden's latest energy decision.

President Joe Biden: "I know how much it hurts. As you've heard me say, I grew up in a family like many of you where when the price of a gallon of gasoline went up it was discussion at the kitchen table."

The Biden administration announced yesterday it would be tapping the nation's strategic oil reserve in an effort to reduce gasoline prices.

It's not clear the president truly understands how much rising prices hurt American families and how little this new effort will help. When Trump left office in January 2021, gas was $2.69 a gallon. Today, it is $4.33 a gallon, an increase of 81% in just over a year. Biden wants to blame the problem on Putin. But Republicans aren't buying it.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas: "It's the increase in gas prices is all Putin's fault. And it's just a flat-out lie. Listen, gas prices had increased nearly 50% under Joe Biden before Putin had invaded Ukraine."

Many believe the strategic oil reserve should be a last resort and that using the reserve will have little effect on prices.

The New York Times reported, "The reserve has mostly been used to increase the supply of oil during wars, foreign threats to energy supplies or natural disasters. Smaller reserve releases by the Biden administration starting late last year have had little impact on the prices that drivers and businesses pay for fuel."

The energy crisis may be just what the doctor ordered for the Biden administration.

Professor Brian Brenberg, department of business and economics, King's College:

One gets the impression — and you can see this in the polls that Americans think this — one gets the impression that the president likes these higher prices, because he doesn't want to let this crisis go to waste, and he's willing to put it on the backs of American families.

Even if we all followed Biden's advice and bought electric cars, the demand for electricity would just create a different energy crisis, making clear the Biden administration needs a more coherent approach to energy and the environment.

It should not be forgotten that on Biden's first day in office, Jan. 20,  2021, he signed an executive order canceling the Keystone XL pipeline.

The Centers for Disease Control announced today it will end Title 42 next month. The COVID emergency policy has enabled Border Patrol agents to turn away thousands of illegal immigrants showing up at our overwhelmed southern border. Church Militant's Kim Tisor takes a look at what the policy's removal could mean for the border and the country at large.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas: "This is a humanitarian crisis. It's a public-health crisis. It's a national-security crisis. And, right now, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris refuse to do a damn thing about it."

The Biden administration does have a plan. Next month, the CDC will lift Title 42 — making things worse.

Kate Bedingfield, White House communications director: "And we have every expectation that when the CDC ultimately decides it's appropriate to lift Title 42, there will be an influx of people to the border."

Due to the pandemic, President Trump implemented the policy as a way to quickly expel immigrants at the border. Border Patrol agents warn ending Title 42 will supercharge the ongoing crisis. Agents already expect to encounter 2.5 million illegals this year — that's the population of Chicago.

Rep. Tony Gonzalez, R-Texas: "The agents on the ground, they are working their tails off. And their mental health — they're beyond broken. You know, their suicide rates are historic."

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have urged Biden to keep Title 42 intact. It's one of the few tools Border Patrol agents have to prevent worsening chaos.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.: "We can't only be a sovereign nation during pandemics. Americans deserve secure borders all the time."

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security anticipates 18,000 immigrants will cross into our country each day once Biden lifts Title 42. They'll likely be shipped all across the United States, effectively turning each state into a border state.

Customs and Border Protection sources reveal more than 62,000 illegal immigrants circumvented Border Patrol agents just last month. That averages about 2,000 immigrants per day.
