Saint Joseph, Martyr of Grandeur by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira December 20, 2007

To even begin to comprehend the nature of Saint Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, we must bear in mind two awe-inspiring facts. Saint Joseph is the virgin-husband of Our Lady and the guardian-father of Our Lord.

The husband must be proportional to the wife. Saint Joseph’s spouse is the Blessed Virgin Mary, the most perfect of all creatures, and masterpiece of the Creator’s handiwork. In her incomparable person, we find the sum of all the virtues of all the angels, and saints, indeed all creation until the end of time. Even these poor considerations, of course, fail to convey adequately the sublime perfection of the Most Holy Mother of God.

Novena to Saint Joseph, with Daily Meditations

From among all men, God chose one man worthy to love and honor the Mother of His Only-Begotten Son as her husband. He was a husband proportional to his wife in love of God, purity, wisdom, justice—in every virtue. Saint Joseph was that man.

However there remains something even more incomprehensible. The father must be proportional to his son, and, as we have noted, the Son for Whom God sought an earthly father was none other than His Own.

There could be but one man fit for such an awesome responsibility, the man God created for precisely this vocation and whose soul He crowned with every virtue. That man, too, was Saint Joseph.

Saint Joseph is proportional to the Blessed Mother and her Divine Son. What greater homage could we render him? It is beyond our power to imagine the grandeur of Saint Joseph’s exaltation.

Words cannot express the depth of his penetration of the most holy soul of Our Lady and the degree of his intimacy with the Incarnate Word.

Saint Anthony of Padua is commonly depicted holding the Child Jesus. Because the Divine Child rested in his arms for a few moments, we deem Saint Anthony particularly blessed. Yet how many times did Saint Joseph hold the Christ Child in his arms?

Why America Must Reject Isolationism and Its Dangers

Saint Joseph’s were the pure lips that taught Jesus and answered His questions. Consider Saint Joseph’s carpenter shop in Nazareth, where a son learns the trade of his father.

If you can conceive of a man with the purity, humility, and wisdom to govern the Holy Family as its lord, you may begin to appreciate the sublime virtue of Saint Joseph. But how did Saint Joseph’s contemporaries react in the face of this grandeur? Saint Luke provides clear testimony. “And she broughtSaint Joseph, Martyr of Grandeur forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7)

These last words reveal a bitter truth. In their petty selfishness, men find it difficult to accept that which is great—much less that which is divine. We may think that men like to deal with important matters. Indeed some men do enjoy such things, but in a superficial and selfish manner. What attracts men is not so much grandeur as mediocrity, a mixture of good and evil in which evil predominates.

So we can understand why the innkeepers of Bethlehem were unwilling to make room for the Holy Family. Saint Joseph and Mary showed them the most tender kindness. Their majesty was unmistakable, even in their poverty.

However distinction is only acceptable when it is accompanied by wealth, for the latter pardons the former. Moreover, greed incites flattery, which takes the place of respect. Thus, when a poor man of great distinction knocks at the door, there is no room. It would have taken but five minutes to arrange ample accommodation for mediocre rich men, but there was no room in the inn for Saint Joseph or for his wife with Child. And even had they known that the Child was the promised Messiah, they still would not have received them. As Donoso Cortes aptly reminds us, “The human spirit hungers for absurdity and sin.”

The Child Jesus resembled Our Lady. She was the prefigure of the Redeemer. Saint Joseph also looked like Him, but there was no room in the inn for the Holy Family. Thus history records the first refusal of the Hebrew people. Our Lord knocks at the doors—at the hearts—of men through the paternal intercession of Saint Joseph and He is refused.

Eternal and Natural Law: The Foundation of Morals and Law

Saint Joseph, prince of the House of David, the royal family from which would come the Hope of the Nations—knocks at the door and is rejected. But in this rejection lies his glory. Taking another step toward martyrdom, he leads his august spouse to a poor stable, where the Lord of the Universe will be born.

To this glory would be added many others: the glory of being considered a person of little worth; the glory of taking upon himself the humiliation, ignominy, and opprobrium that was to fall upon Our Lord; or the glory of being scorned by men for the grandeur of his soul. Even to this day; that same glory leads us to implore, “Saint Joseph, Martyr of Grandeur, pray for us!”

A video from Chuck Schumer’s past just surfaced that will make Elon Musk invite him to join the DOGE team

Mar 18, 2025

Three Key Takeaways:

  • A resurfaced video from 2010 shows Chuck Schumer advocating for cuts to waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicare, which aligns with the work being done by Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to streamline government operations and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Despite Schumer’s recent attacks on Musk, particularly over the alleged cuts to Social Security and Medicare, the video reveals that Schumer himself once recognized the need to address waste in government programs, making him appear hypocritical.
  • Musk, who is facing significant backlash from Democrats for his role in DOGE, responded to the video with approval, highlighting the common ground between Schumer’s past statements and Musk’s current efforts to improve government efficiency.

The Left is waging a full frontal assault on Elon Musk over his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Chuck Schumer ranted about Elon Musk on Wednesday from the Senate floor.

But this video from Chuck Schumer’s past just surfaced that will make Elon Musk invite him to join the DOGE team.

Outside of Donald Trump, there is no one who the Democrats hate more right now than SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Democrats already disliked Elon Musk because he is the richest man in the world.

But his efforts to streamline the federal bureaucracy and make government more efficient sent Democrats into a rage.

They’re furious over DOGE exposing how deep the waste, fraud, and abuse runs within the federal bureaucracy.

Not only is Musk facing death threats, but left-wing terrorists are also attacking and destroying Tesla cars, charging stations, and dealerships across the country.

Democrats and their allies in the media are fueling the rage by spreading lies about Musk and DOGE.

On Wednesday, Chuck Schumer took the Senate floor and spewed off a string of nasty lies about Musk.

“This week, Elon Musk said the quiet part out loud, and every single American should be alarmed,” Schumer said.

Schumer then falsely claimed that Musk called for eliminating social security and medicare.

Of course, neither Musk nor Donald Trump has called for cutting social security or medicare.

In an interview with Fox Business’s Larry Kudlow, Musk referred to cuts in entitlement spending, not benefits, as Schumer claimed.

“Musk was not calling for eliminating Social Security and Medicare – he was referencing waste and inefficiencies within entitlement programs, a distinction they chose to ignore,” Breitbart reported.

Schumer took issue with Musk for pointing out that social security and medicare are ripe with fraud and abuse.

But a video of Chuck Schumer from 2010 just surfaced that should make the Senator sit down and stop crying about Elon Musk.

In the video, Chuck Schumer is speaking to Barack Obama and a group of high level Democrats in Congress about medicare.

“If we’re going to eliminate the waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicare, it does mean we’re gonna cut some of that out,” Schumer said in reference to the waste in the program.

He pointed out that “one third of Medicare doesn’t go to patient care.”

“You can’t just get up there and say, ‘we don’t wanna cut anything out of Medicare,’” Schumer said in the video. “We want to cut the bad stuff and keep the good stuff.”

Elon Musk responded to the video with, “Great idea!”

Chuck Schumer sounded like a spokesman for DOGE in 2010 when he mentioned “waste, fraud, and abuse” within the federal bureaucracy.

But Schumer is a Democrat first.

And he will never admit that Trump and Musk are doing good work.

Biden Only Signed 12 of 162 Executive Orders Who Signed Biden’s Orders in His Name? Shocking but not surprising! Reports now confirm that nearly EVERY executive order—potentially 150 (93%) out of 162 in total—bears an IDENTICAL autopen signature, a mechanical stamp, not by Biden’s hand.

MARK LEVIN: Chief Justice Called Out By NAME With SCATHING Rebuke On Live TV

But will he, in fact, 'grow a pair'?

Mark Levin is best known for two things — his sharp tongue and his legal mind, especially as it relates to Constitutional Law and the history around it.

When yet ANOTHER lower-court judge tried to interfere in powers that are clearly defined as being within the four corners of the Executive Branch, and beyond the power of a petty potentate judge to decide — going so far as demanding that a plane already in the air and on its way to El Salvadore turn around to satisfy his injunction, Mark Levin had something to say about it.

He ought to, since the relevant precedent requiring a judge to write an order before it becomes binding was successfully argued by Mark Levin’s Landmark Legal in a dispute with the federal government some two decades ago.

Levin and Chief Justice Roberts know each other, and both worked in the Republican administrations in the 80s. Levin does not mince words when it comes to the squishy decisions Roberts makes and how he believes many of those decisions are aimed at pleasing the people who write newspapers and history books so that he will be remembered fondly by them as one of the ‘good’ guys, more than one of the tough-but-fair who was more interested in interpreting disputes by what laws, contracts, and the Constitution itself would indicate as implications of the plain reading of their texts.

Since the barrage of court battles has been unleashed against Trump pursuing his mandate has been unleashed, Roberts has been uniquely positioned as official head of the judicial branch, to tell judges what they ought to do in order to ‘stay in their lane’.

He his NOT so specially qualified to speak to powers that fall under the elected branches of government, such as the checks and balances members of other branches are permitted to exercise within their official powers. Trump, for example, does not have the power to ‘impeach’ anyone. That’s a power reserved for Congress. But nothing prevents him from urging Congress to make use of their oversight powers, any more than he is prevented from lobbying for appointments to be taken, budgets to be passed, or treaties to be ratified.

Justice Roberts took umbrage at Trump’s call for the rogue and conflcited judge who ordered the plane to El Salvadore turned around (as Trump views him) to be reigned in with the legitimate powers Congress has for exactly such times as judges exceed their just powers. Instead of reigning in a judge, he scolded Trump.

This is where Mark Levin comes into the story, having been invited onto Martha McCallum’s show ever since the issue of low-level judges giving high-level restraining orders came onto the scene. This week, he was able to make the invite work, and he made it count:

After telling the justice to ‘grow a pair’, he blasted this great assault on the Separation of Powers that makes the Constitution something more than just a dead-letter document.

As he often says on his radio show, ‘There, I said it!’.

That he did.
