Her Name is Rose.........

Her Name is Rose.........

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze.
'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.
She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'
'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.
We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me..
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.
Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.
There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.
We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!
There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.
If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.
Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets..
The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.'
She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose..'
She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.
One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.
Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.
When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it!
These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY.
GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.
We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.
God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Pass this message on to 7 people.
You will receive a miracle tomorrow
If you don't think so,
Look out your window when you wake up in the morning and think about it.
'Good friends are like stars.
You don't always see them,
But you know they are always there.'

He Is Closer Than We Know

He Is Closer Than We Know

As you know, when John was on the island of Patmos, he had a tremendous vision. Most of you have probably read it, and most of us are still trying to figure it out. Now, I realize you understand that when John wrote this magnificent vision, Jesus had already been taken up to heaven, but he wrote, “I did not see any temple in it [in Heaven], because the Lord God Almighty and the lamb are its temple. The city doesn’t need any sun or moon to give it light because the glory of God gave it light. The lamb was its lamp” (Revelation 21:22-23).
Wow! What John was saying is that the only temple in heaven is our Father and His Son (our Lord) themselves. Wow! Go ahead and try to imagine that. I don’t know, like I said yesterday, your mind is probably going, “Tilt!” (Now if you can picture this, you are doing better than me because it boggles my mind).
Okay, as I was saying, I don’t totally understand the immensity of what John was describing. But since Yahweh lives in glory, and sitting at his right hand is our Lord (and brother) Jesus, where do they dwell on earth? As Yahweh asked, “Since Heaven is my throne and earth is my footstool. What sort of house could you possibly build for me? Could you build me such a resting place? I made all this! I own all this!”
Well, I suppose that is a reasonable question . . . because we know there isn’t a building that could contain Him. Oh, we certainly try, but He isn’t living in St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Vatican. He is not living in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. He certainly isn’t in any of the great European cathedrals or in the Crystal Cathedral that was built in Garden Grove, Orange County, California. Oh I know that Robert Schuller believed He was, but He wasn’t
But let’s be honest, none of those places could even contain Him, if He chose to live in any of them. As Paul explained on Mars Hill in Athens, “The God who made the universe and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t live in shrines made by humans, and he isn’t served by humans as if he needed anything. He gives everyone life, breath, and everything they have” (Acts 17:24-25). What all this means is that if we are going to look for Yahweh’s dwelling place in some building, we are fooling ourselves, because we are not going to find it. Even Nikita Khrushchev’s said in a speech “Gagarin flew into space, but didn’t see any god there . . .” Well, I suppose not.
Well that is rather distressing, don’t you think? I mean, where are we going to find our King? Where is He going to live? Aah-ha! Paul told us that: “Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?” (I Corinthians 3:16). Huh? Oh man, that is great! The Lord has found his home! He lives and rests in the hearts of those who welcome Him in!
Once we place our belief in Jesus, we become His temple, His very dwelling place! The most obvious place to see this in the Scripture is in the Upper Room when the Holy Spirit came and fell on the disciples, filling them with Himself. Amen! Right then and there He claimed their sanctified bodies as His temple, where the Father would come and live. The Spirit would help them to mortify and destroy the works of their sinful flesh. He he would give them power to live victoriously. Their bodies became Yehoveh’s temple, a dwelling place that wasn’t built with the hands of men. No! He created His own home!
Jesus said, “Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them” (John 14:23). That is where they came to stay! Then Paul admonished us when he wrote, “You were bought at a price. So honor God with your bodies” (I Corinthians 6:20). Wow! As Juan Carlos Ortiz taught, “There is no need to go thirsty when you are swimming in the Amazon River!” Friends, we belong to Him and He wants us to be His resting place. We need to open our hearts to that truth and give Him glory by receiving it.
But Glory to God, that is just the beginning! Jesus said, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into the full truth. He won’t speak on his own. He will speak what he hears and will tell you about things to come!” (John 16:13). That was a declaration of complete intimacy! James declared, “If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them.”
All you have to do is ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you! The Lord declares,
“I am closer than you think. You keep looking ‘out yonder,’ when the whole time I am closer than you know. I am waiting for you to call to me, to ask me to come to your aide.
I want to show you things to come. I long to show you more of Jesus and Father. I love for you to ask me questions, to search for understanding. I don’t want you lost and confused. It is my joy to lead you into all truth. I will lead you and guide you to whatever you need.”
How are we supposed to respond to that?
Oh Father, you have given us your Spirit to reveal the truth and to give us wisdom, whenever we ask. But frankly, sometimes we forget to rely on you, and try to ‘work it out on our own. Forgive us, Father. In fact, I realize it sounds kind of odd, but give us the wisdom to ask for we really need to know. Show us what need to ask for. When you do, we will grow in your wisdom and joy. We are open to receive your wise counsel in every area of our lives.

    An Unrestful Life?

    An Unrestful Life?

Have you ever laid in bed, tossing and turning? Are all of the unsettled issues of the day keeping you awake? Well, I have the solution and it won’t require you to take a bunch of meds to bring a deep, restful, rejuvenating sleep.
When my kids were younger, a couple of them had trouble getting to sleep, so every night I would pray over them, asking the Holy Spirit to teach them, even as they slept, and, here is what applies to you, I prayed, “Holy Spirit, watch over their thoughts, dreams and imaginations. Let nothing disturb their rest or cause them distress or fear. Allow them to wake up refreshed and renewed in body, mind and spirit.” Hey, it worked and when they woke up they were ready for my hearty and cheerful morning greeting! (Until they learned how to throw things at me. lol).
We always meditated on the Psalms before they went to sleep. For instance, look at Psalm 121. This entire Psalm is great for bedtime prayers. It is easily to remember, and it contains many truths if you are trying to sleep.
A song for going up to worship
I look up toward the mountains.
        Where can I find help?
    My help comes from Yahweh,
the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let you fall.
Your guardian will not fall asleep.
Indeed, the Guardian of Israel never rests or sleeps.
    Yahweh is your guardian.
Yahweh is the shade over your right hand.
The sun will not beat down on you during the day,
nor will the moon at night.
Yahweh guards you from every evil.
        He guards your life.
Yahweh guards you as you come and go,
        now and forever (Psalm 121)
As you can tell from the title, this Psalm was originally sung by pilgrims as they traveled to Jerusalem for an annual feast. They would travel in caravans and would face bad weather, rough terrain, hot days, cold nights, and, of course, the dangers that waited for them in the dark. This Psalm celebrates a God who is with us throughout all our journeys!
Among other things, this Psalm assures us that there is nothing to fear, but fear itself . . . ooh wait, that phrase has already been used. Okay, there is nothing to fear as we sleep! Though we drift off to sleep, “He will not let you fall. Your guardian will not fall asleep. Indeed, the Guardian of Israel never rests or sleeps.” (Psalm 121:3-4). Now that should allow you take a deep breath of peace!
Another Psalm you can consider, is Psalm 139. Specifically verses seven through twelve:
Where can I go to get away from your Spirit?
Where can I run to get away from you?
If I go up to heaven, you are there.
If I make my bed in hell, you are there.
If I climb upward on the rays of the morning sun
or land on the most distant shore of the sea where the sun sets,
even there your hand would guide me
and your right hand would hold on to me.
If I say, “Let the darkness hide me
and let the light around me turn into night,”
even the darkness is not too dark for you.
Night is as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you (Psalm 139:7-12)
Come to think of it, the whole Psalm is worth memorizing! It reminds us that nothing can separate us from our God’s presence.  Yahweh is everywhere. The night itself cannot hide us from Him. Read verse twelve again:
If I say, ‘Let the darkness hide me
and let the light around me turn into night,’
even the darkness is not too dark for you.
Night is as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you” (Psalm 139:11-12).
Meditate on some other Psalms to find the rest you need:
Yahweh commands his mercy during the day,
and at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the El of my life.” (Psalm 42:8)
But you, O Yahweh, are a Shield that surrounds me.
        You are my glory.
        You hold my head high.
    I call aloud to Yahweh,
and he answers me from his holy mountain. Selah
    I lie down and sleep.
I wake up again because Yahweh continues to support me” (Psalm 3:3-5)
You put more joy and rejoicing in my heart
than then know when their grain and new wine have yielded abundantly.
I fall asleep in peace the moment I lie down
        because you alone, O
Yahweh, enable me to live securely” (Psalm 4:7-8)
How is that? Does that give some great news to meditate on? If your will spend time on these verses, rolling them around and allow them to spread and settle in your heart, it will revolutionize your walk with the Lord!
