Iran: Protests grow, regime charged with opening fire on protesters, denies doing so

It is hard to believe the Islamic regime’s denial that police opened fire on protesters, since the regime is known to be repressive and dishonest. Also, “Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaghari saying 11 people were hurt when someone opened fire.” Who, if not someone connected to the regime?

“Iranian Protesters Clash With Police for Second Night,” Associated Press, July 2, 2018:

Iranian state media say protesters have clashed with police over water scarcity in the southwest for a second night.

IRNA says protesters threw stones and debris at police and set a car on fire in a protest that began late Sunday in the city of Abadan.

The report says police blocked roads near the protest and that the situation is “under control.”

Similar clashes over water scarcity broke out in the nearby city of Khorramshahr late Saturday. Authorities say one protester and 10 police were injured, and videos posted online showed gunfire ringing out….

“Iran denies shooting protesters,” by Elad Benari, Arutz Sheva, July 2, 2018:

Iran on Sunday denied reports that security forces had shot and killed at least four protesters during a demonstration city of Khorramshahr late Saturday, AFP reported.

Several people were injured in the southwestern Iranian city during a demonstration against water pollution, according to Iranian state media.

The protesters set fire to rubbish bins and damaged public property, prompting police to fire tear gas to disperse them, state-run IRNA news agency said Sunday.

Iran’s Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli insisted that just one person was injured in a “confrontation involving shots”, denying reports carried by Saudi media that Iranian security forces had shot and killed protesters.

“The statements saying numerous people were killed are false,” he said during a press conference, according to AFP.

Officials gave different accounts of those injured during the protest, with Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaghari saying 11 people were hurt when someone opened fire….
