Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts
“Virtue-signaling”: Bill Maher blasts George Clooney’s call to boycott Brunei-owned hotels over stoning of gays
“Real Time host Bill Maher blasted George Clooney’s call for a boycott of hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei…which next month will implement Islamic criminal laws to punish gay sex by stoning offenders to death.”
Although Bill Maher admitted to the harm that Sharia brings to women, gays, and others in Saudi Arabia, Brunei and everywhere else it is implemented, he rebuked Clooney for being impractical and “virtue-signalling.” Yet Clooney argued a valid point: “are we really going to help fund the murder of innocent citizens?'”
The murder of innocent people is a daily occurrence not only at the hands of jihadists, but also under numerous Sharia provisions.
Meanwhile, Elton John has supported Clooney in his call to boycott Brunei-owned hotels.
Both Maher and Clooney have a point. Maher is right that opposition to Sharia should be consistent. There need to be a full, open, honest discussions about Sharia and the abuses it sanctions. These abuses need to be brought out into the public square. Turning a blind eye to them is not the answer. Let’s hope this spark in the entertainment industry ignites. It has long been baffling how gay rights activists and women’s rights activists could remain silent for so long in the face of the Sharia abuse of those they claim to be defending.
The least Western countries should be doing is taking immediate measures to reject all principles of Sharia that contradict the principles of free societies. Aside from its misogyny and death penalty for homosexuality, Sharia also calls for death for speech that offends Islam. Instead of discussing this, Western countries have fallen for the “Islamophobia” deception.
Islam should and must be scrutinized like all other ideologies and religions.
Clooney’s wife Amal was reported to have been blacklisted by Hollywood for being outspokenabout Islamic State jihadists and for “urging the U.N. Security Council to focus on genocide against Yazidis.” As an international human rights lawyer, Amal also paired up with Nobel Peace Prize-winning former Yazidi sex slave Nadia Murad to “take ISIS to trial.”
