It's no accident that most young people who attend colleges and universities come out more "woke" and leftist than they went in. Marxists have made it their aim since the 1930s to infiltrate and take over these institutions of the West, subverting the Judeo-Christian culture by substituting it with cultural Marxism.

Italian communist Antonio Gramsci is one of the fathers of cultural Marxism. Before he died in 1937, he wrote "Socialism is precisely the religion that must overwhelm Christianity. … In the new order, socialism will triumph by first capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches and the media by transforming the consciousness of society."

Sound familiar? College professors have been commies for decades, but Marxism is now being taught to children when they are in grade school. The media and Democrats refuse to condemn the rioting of Antifa and Black Lives Matter despite their causing more than $2 billion in property damage. They instead refer to such riots as "mostly peaceful" protests in a world where black is apparently white and wrong is seemingly right.

After witnessing firsthand the failure of soviet economic Marxism in Russia, Gramsci realized that Marxist ideology could not be forced through economic means alone. Culture itself would have to be changed because it's the culture that influences politics.

It's around this same time that communists were also infiltrating the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in order to make it a tool of communism — or at least to neutralize its power to withstand it.

Ex-communist Bella Dodd revealed in her book School of Darkness, that in the 1920s and 1930s she helped over 1,000 communist infiltrators become priests and eventually bishops. In 2016, Church Militant interviewed Alice von Hildebrand, a friend of Dodd, who spoke extensively about it.

The other fathers of what's called Neo-Marxism are the men who composed the so-called Frankfurt School. They were a group of Jewish communists who fled to America. Max Horkheimer, philosopher, sociologist and psychologist, like Gramsci, was a founding member of the movement. He realized that implementing Marxism would be more effective if it was promoted as a culture instead of merely an economic model.

It's through that method that Marxism spread throughout American thought, especially in the 1960s and onward. In 1976, West German student-leader Rudi Dutschke used the term "long march through the institutions," referring to the infiltration of the Church, media, education and family structures in order to subvert them to Marxism.
