It’s always been abundantly clear that leftist cities like San Francisco have a deep disdain for conservatives, and the rest of America.

But one 2016 city ordinance that was put into place went beyond the pale, effectively banning any business dealings with red states.

Now, this infamous “red state ban” has backfired on San Francisco in a major way.

San Francisco is considered the most leftist city in America.

And they have taken actions that have destroyed the city all in the name of Leftist ‘wokism.’

City leaders are now backpedaling

But these decisions are now causing so much pain for San Francisco residents, that the political elite there are having a change of heart on some of the most draconian laws.

In 2016, the city of San Francisco passed an ordinance that blocked the entire city from contracting with any companies in states that restrict abortion.

The wording of the ordinance also included any states that supposedly limit LGBTQ rights or other pet leftist issues like universal “voting rights.”

The ordinance also says that no city officials can travel to these “banned states” and that businesses and contractors should boycott services from any company based in the red states.

What started as just a handful of states ended up with a whopping total of 30 U.S. states that San Francisco could no longer do business with.

The stated goal of the bans was to put pressure on other states to change their laws by enacting a ban that would have negative impacts on their commerce and business dealings. Now, not surprisingly, the ridiculous left-wing boycott has backfired, according to a report from the City Administrator’s Office released on February 10.

The only ones hurt were San Franciscans

The report says that the ban has raised San Francisco’s annual contracting costs by up to a whopping 20 percent, and it has had no real effect on any red states’ decision to change, or not change, their laws.

It also found that the ordinance only added to the already complex contracting rules in the city, making it “ineffective and cumbersome.”

The ban was originally thought to deprive the red states of San Francisco’s businesses and its people, but it’s had practically zero negative impact on said states.

Apparently, San Francisco needs the rest of the country more than the rest of the country needs the failing city.

According to the report, the increase in contractor costs “suggests that the city’s threat of boycott may not serve as a compelling deterrent to states considering restrictive policies.”

And this week, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors committee proposed a total repeal of the ordinance.

City Supervisor Ahsha Safaí said during a recent committee hearing that the ordinance “creates a burden for San Francisco.”

Meanwhile, California’s radical leftist Governor Gavin Newsom got himself into hot water last year when he traveled to his in-law’s home in Montana, which is one of the blacklisted states.

An ineffective policy

San Francisco mistakenly assumed that by boycotting states it disagrees with politically, those states would eventually change their laws.

But now, one city supervisor wants to pass legislation that will repeal the law entirely.

Supervisor Rafael Mandelman is leading the charge and recently said, “It’s an ineffective policy that complicates the business of San Francisco government and makes it very likely that we pay more than we should for goods and services.”

And in Biden’s economy, people simply cannot afford to pay for rising costs, including those for city services.

Since the ordinance was enacted, only one state has been removed from the banned list, and no states have ever stated that the law was a reason for reforming their own laws.

Clearly, San Francisco doesn’t have quite the influence that it thinks it does.
