My cartoon addresses just one of the failures in California. In June, 2024, Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to end COVID vaccine requirements for city workers. But it was too late for many. Attorney Jennifer Kennedy says she represents hundreds of firefighters, police officers and other workers who are suing the city of Los Angeles because they were fired for refusing to get vaccinated. Besides a shortage of firefighters, Todd Starnes writes, “Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat… recently slashed more than $17 million from the fire department’s budget. Fire officials warned the cuts would limit their ability to fight major fires.” Watch this awkward video of Mayor Bass’ response to questions from a Sky News reporter about her defunding the fire department. Democrats have controlled California for decades and they have mismanaged the forests by not clearing the deadwood leaving them vulnerable to wildfires. To make matters worse, government leaders refused to refill reservoirs because Gov. Gavin Newsom and the tree huggers wanted to protect a tiny fish. Dennis Prager is right: Everything the Left touches it ruins. TONE-DEAF AWARDEvery speaker at Jimmy Carter's funeral, testified about his Christian faith. But Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, must not have heard the theme of the funeral, because they went to the microphones and sang John Lennon's atheist anthem, "Imagine." Read the lyrics to the first verse:
Atheism is the foundational “theology” of Communism. Surely, Carter didn’t choose this song to be sung at his funeral. There are millions of songs that would be more appropriate for a Christian funeral, like, “Amazing Grace.” Instead they sang the second verse of “Imagine” which calls for a one-world government and no religion.
The song, “Imagine” is the opposite of what Carter said he believed. Look, I have some doctrinal issues with Carter’s position on abortion and marriage but he claimed to be born again which requires faith in Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. Based on that, I assume Carter also believed in life after death and a literal heaven. So why on earth would Garth sing the song, “Imagine?” Note to self: Plan my own funeral and demand - NO atheist songs.
