Eighty years ago, three terrified teens—Irene, Ruth, and Steven—were forced out of freight cars at Auschwitz. Torn apart from family members, many of whom were soon murdered, they endured starvation and other barbaric abuse.

WATCH NOW

For years after, they could not speak about their experiences. While they have now retold their stories individually for many years to Museum audiences—within our walls, around the country, and online—this is the first time they have reflected together as Auschwitz survivors of similar ages.

Watch their conversation above and tune in on Monday, January 27, at noon ET, to hear more from Irene, Ruth, and Steven about their harrowing experiences at one of the deadliest Nazi camps. Request a reminder to learn about what contributed to their remarkable survival.

The messages that they shared are especially poignant as we approach International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27. Amid surging antisemitism today, survivors speak out because they don’t want their past to become our future. This anniversary is an urgent reminder to learn from them now and share their timely warnings with more people worldwide.

Watch Irene, Ruth, and Steven talk about their unimaginable experiences at Auschwitz.

Sincerely,
Diane Saltzman
Director of Survivor Affairs

PS Will you commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day by watching Irene, Ruth, and Steven’s stories online on January 27 at noon ET? Remind me to attend the live digital program.
