Tom Homan vows to deport illegal alien accused of grisly subway murder
The New York City subway has become a war zone because of a surge in crime.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul bragged on social media about the subway system being safer after she deployed the National Guard there just hours after a woman was burned to death in December.
33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, an illegal alien from Guatemala, allegedly doused a woman sleeping on a subway car in lighter fluid and then lit her on fire.
Prosecutors alleged that he used his jacket to fan the flames while the woman burned to death.
Zapeta-Calil was deported from the country in 2018 but illegally re-entered it at an unknown date.
He was charged with arson and first and second-degree murder.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem revealed that New York City wouldn’t turn over Zapeta-Calil to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) because of its sanctuary city law.
“ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the NYC Department of Corrections to take this depraved alien into custody,” Noem wrote on X. “Because of current sanctuary city policy, the corrections department has indicated it will NOT honor the detainer. This is disgusting. New York politicians are allowing the murder of their own citizens. Governor Hochul should impose an emergency suspension of sanctuary protection by executive order NOW.”
“Border Czar” Tom Homan promised the ICE would arrest and deport Zapeta-Calil during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Hannity.
“He’s not gonna get away,” Homan said.
A battle is brewing between New York and the Trump administration
Homan vowed that he would have ICE agents posted up outside the jail waiting for Zapeta-Calil if that’s what it took to apprehend him.
“If we have to sit outside that jail every day, 24/7, we’ll get our hands on him,” Homan stated. “New York City, or any other sanctuary city, is not gonna stop ICE from keeping President Trump’s promise to eradicate every criminal illegal alien, every public threat illegal alien, every national security threat illegal alien from this country. We’ll get it done.”
“The Border Czar” said that sanctuary cities were making his job harder but that they would find a way to get it done.
Homan added that Attorney General Pam Bondi could file an additional lawsuit against New York if Zapeta-Calil isn’t handed over to ICE.
The Trump Justice Department filed a lawsuit against New York over the state’s 2019 Green Light Law, which allows illegal aliens to obtain a driver’s license.
State officials are prohibited from driver’s license information with the federal government without a judge’s order under the law.
Bondi’s lawsuit argues that the federal government obtaining the driver’s information is “critical” to “identify and remove those who are here illegally.”
The Trump administration is ready to battle the lawless New York government over its support for illegal immigration.
