Hunger and Drive
We don’t talk about Esau much. He was the twin brother of Jacob (Genesis 36:1)., who we know was Yahweh’s chosen descendant of Isaac. Esau’s descendants became known as the Edomites. The word Edom in Hebrew means “red,” which is a reference to Esau’s reddish look at birth (Genesis 25:25). If you remember, he was the hairy guy who traded his right of being a “First Born,” for some food.
Yes, Esau was born first, but his twin, Jacob, grabbed his heel while still in the womb. And I am sure it was quite a shock to the midwife when she saw Esau come out with a tiny hand gripping his heel!
This is how Hosea described it:
Well, what did Jesus say about it? When John the Baptist was in prison, some of John’s followers asked Jesus if he was the one John talked about, and Jesus answered,
Now, Jacob could have been after the double portion of his father’s wealth and the promise of the land, but that was in his natural way of thinking. Deep inside, I don’t believe he was. No, I believe that Jacob wanted something more. He wanted Yahweh’s blessing so he could be in the lineage of the Messiah! Did he understand it that way? Of course not, because he no idea of the Salvation of all men. But I do believe that deep inside he wanted the priestly blessing. Oh, not just being priest of the clan, but being able to bless others! That is what the “double portion” actually signified.
Read through the twenty seventh chapter of Genesis and see this priestly ministry described. In Jacob’s case, it meant the high honor of having Yahweh’s hand on him — and the power and ability to bless others!
In these last days, this is what is being required of us! Our Lord is raising up people who are not occupied with making their own living, owning a house or driving a nice car. He is calling those who are greedy for the blessings of God — not to consume it on themselves, but to be used of Him to help others!
I saw this evident in the heart of my father-in-law. He has been a very successful business man who loves his family, but has taken care of anyone he met who was in need. His blood flows with passion for others. Never once, in the 32 years I have known him, has he ever sought the accolades of men! In fact, I have seen him shun the spotlight and honors. His only desire was to be a blessing to his family and to his Lord!
I know other brothers and sisters who are committed to provide abundance to the people of God. They desire the wisdom and guidance in their businesses so they can succeed in order to meet the needs of The Church. Their sole desire is to see The Church prosper and be in good health. Oh, how I wish you could meet these folks because they are inspirations to me! Their passion in their business’ is match (or surpassed) only by their desire to bless the Lord and His Church — the people of God! Oh, they know who they are, and to them, I offer a salute in their honor. Be blessed and go forward, my friends.

Yes, Esau was born first, but his twin, Jacob, grabbed his heel while still in the womb. And I am sure it was quite a shock to the midwife when she saw Esau come out with a tiny hand gripping his heel!
This is how Hosea described it:
“Their ancestor Jacob held on to his brother’s heelIn this very brief passage about Jacob, the prophet Hosea was summing up how we are to overcome and prevail with God! He was saying, “Here was a man who was greedy for Yahweh. He was hungry for everything He had for him!” Jacob came out of the womb with a fighting mood, longing for the blessings of God! Is this suggesting that we are to be so anxious and greedy for the things of Yahweh?
while the two of them were in their mother’s womb.
When Jacob became a man, he struggled with Elohim.
He struggled with the Messenger and won.
Jacob cried and pleaded with him.
Jacob found him at Bethel,
and he talked with him there.
Yahweh is the God of Armies.
Yahweh is the name by which he is remembered.” (Hosea 12:3-5).
Well, what did Jesus say about it? When John the Baptist was in prison, some of John’s followers asked Jesus if he was the one John talked about, and Jesus answered,
“Go tell John what you hear and see: The blind can see, the crippled can walk, and people with skin diseases are healed. The deaf can hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is preached to the poor [which are all signs of Yahweh’s restoration of creation predicted by the prophet Isaiah; Issiah. 29:18–19; 35:5–6; 61:1–2]. Those who do not stumble in their faith and are not offended because of me, are blessed.”But then when John’s followers where leaving, Jesus began talking to the crowds about John:
“What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind? [Which was a metaphor for something weak or wavering. Which John was not]? What did you go out to see? A man dressed in expensive clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes are found in kings’ palaces. So why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, and I tell you, John is more than a prophet.Folks, I am telling you now that if you don’t want the fullness of God, I do. So get out of my way! Oh, don’t be offended by that. You can come and join me, but I will not be left behind in God’s blessings! I am inviting you to come with me because the birthright and blessing of Jacob’s desire throughout his life represents all the blessings that are in Christ Jesus!
This was written about him:
‘Look, I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way for you [Malachi 3:1]’I tell you the truth, John the Baptist is greater than any other person ever born to women, but even the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John [Huh?] because John prepares for, but does not fully participate in the blessings of the kingdom [Oh, but brothers and sisters, we do!]. And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force as a precious prize — a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion. All the prophets and the law of Moses told about what would happen until the time John came (Matthew 11:4-15)
