Hunger and Drive

Hunger and Drive

We don’t talk about Esau much. He was the twin brother of Jacob (Genesis 36:1)., who we know was Yahweh’s chosen descendant of Isaac. Esau’s descendants became known as the Edomites. The word Edom in Hebrew means “red,” which is a reference to Esau’s reddish look at birth (Genesis 25:25). If you remember, he was the hairy guy who traded his right of being a “First Born,” for some food.
Yes, Esau was born first, but his twin, Jacob, grabbed his heel while still in the womb. And I am sure it was quite a shock to the midwife when she saw Esau come out with a tiny hand gripping his heel!
This is how Hosea described it:
Their ancestor Jacob held on to his brother’s heel
while the two of them were in their mother’s womb.
When Jacob became a man, he struggled with Elohim.
He struggled with the Messenger and won.
Jacob cried and pleaded with him.
        Jacob found him at Bethel,
and he talked with him there.
Yahweh is the God of Armies.
Yahweh is the name by which he is remembered.
” (Hosea 12:3-5).
In this very brief passage about Jacob, the prophet Hosea was summing up how we are to overcome and prevail with God! He was saying, “Here was a man who was greedy for Yahweh. He was hungry for everything He had for him!” Jacob came out of the womb with a fighting mood, longing for the blessings of God! Is this suggesting that we are to be so anxious and greedy for the things of Yahweh?
Well, what did Jesus say about it? When John the Baptist was in prison, some of John’s followers asked Jesus if he was the one John talked about, and Jesus answered,
“Go tell John what you hear and see: The blind can see, the crippled can walk, and people with skin diseases are healed. The deaf can hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is preached to the poor [which are all signs of Yahweh’s restoration of creation predicted by the prophet Isaiah; Issiah. 29:18–19; 35:5–6; 61:1–2]. Those who do not stumble in their faith and are not offended because of me, are blessed.”
But then when John’s followers where leaving, Jesus began talking to the crowds about John:
“What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind? [Which was a metaphor for something weak or wavering. Which John was not]? What did you go out to see? A man dressed in expensive clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes are found in kings’ palaces. So why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, and I tell you, John is more than a prophet.
This was written about him:
Look, I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way for you [Malachi 3:1]
I tell you the truth, John the Baptist is greater than any other person ever born to women, but even the least important person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John [Huh?] because John prepares for, but does not fully participate in the blessings of the kingdom [Oh, but brothers and sisters, we do!]And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force as a precious prizea share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion. All the prophets and the law of Moses told about what would happen until the time John came (Matthew 11:4-15)
Folks, I am telling you now that if you don’t want the fullness of God, I do. So get out of my way! Oh, don’t be offended by that. You can come and join me, but I will not be left behind in God’s blessings! I am inviting you to come with me because the birthright and blessing of Jacob’s desire throughout his life represents all the blessings that are in Christ Jesus!
Now, Jacob could have been after the double portion of his father’s wealth and the promise of the land, but that was in his natural way of thinking. Deep inside, I don’t believe he was. No, I believe that Jacob wanted something more. He wanted Yahweh’s blessing so he could be in the lineage of the Messiah! Did he understand it that way? Of course not, because he no idea of the Salvation of all men. But I do believe that deep inside he wanted the priestly blessing. Oh, not just being priest of the clan, but being able to bless others! That is what the “double portion” actually signified.
Read through the twenty seventh chapter of Genesis and see this priestly ministry described. In Jacob’s case, it meant the high honor of having Yahweh’s hand on him — and the power and ability to bless others!
In these last days, this is what is being required of us! Our Lord is raising up people who are not occupied with making their own living, owning a house or driving a nice car. He is calling those who are greedy for the blessings of God — not to consume it on themselves, but to be used of Him to help others!
I saw this evident in the heart of my father-in-law. He has been a very successful business man who loves his family, but has taken care of anyone he met who was in need. His blood flows with passion for others. Never once, in the 32 years I have known him, has he ever sought the accolades of men! In fact, I have seen him shun the spotlight and honors. His only desire was to be a blessing to his family and to his Lord!
I know other brothers and sisters who are committed to provide abundance to the people of God. They desire the wisdom and guidance in their businesses so they can succeed in order to meet the needs of The Church. Their sole desire is to see The Church prosper and be in good health. Oh, how I wish you could meet these folks because they are inspirations to me! Their passion in their business’ is match (or surpassed) only by their desire to bless the Lord and His Church — the people of God! Oh, they know who they are, and to them, I offer a salute in their honor. Be blessed and go forward, my friends.

    A Personal Cry

    A Personal Cry

There is stirring a longing, and deep desire to see my Father’s Kingdom established in my life. The Holy Spirit has created a hunger, a passion to know and understand what plan and desire He has for His Church. I long to have a period of revelation grander and deeper than I have already experienced. I hunger to become united to the plans and purposes He has my life. And, I keep challenging you to follow this calling, as well.
However, it will require some effort on your part, and I am wondering how many of us are able to follow through and cry out our Lord, “Glorify me with yourself! Bring me into oneness with you. I ache to be closer, more intimate. Master, it is you that I want. More than signs or wonders, more than health and prosperity, I must have your presence!”
How ’bout it? Do you have the nerve? This is Scriptural, you know. Let me show you. Turn to John’s Gospel, the seventeenth chapter and I’m going to personalize Jesus’ prayer regarding this very thing. You can join me in this prayer if your want:
“Father, Jesus revealed you to me; in fact, you gave me to Him from this world. Everything He has is a gift from you, He continues to pass on to me the messages you are giving to Him and I accept them and believe you sent your son for my salvation and redemption.
“You gave me His name and I ask that you would continue to protect me by the power of His name so that I can be united to you, just as we are. He has protected me by the power of the Name you gave Him, that Name of Son! He has guarded all of us so that none of us is lost . . .
“He has told me many things so I could be filled with joy, and yes, I realize that the world will hate me, as it hated Him, because we no longer belong to their world.
“Father, I am not asking for you to take me out of this world, but to keep me safe from the evil one. I pray that you will continue to make me Holy by your truth and teach me your word, which is truth. I give myself as a holy sacrifice to you so I can be made Holy by your truth.
“I am asking that your Church will become united as one, in the same way that you and Jesus are one — as you are in Him, Father, and he is in you. And may we be so united that the world will believe you sent your Son.”
Cool huh? Listen to Jesus’ plea: “Father, I want those you have given me [that’s us] to be with me where I am, so that they can see the glory that you gave me because you loved me before the creation of the world” (John 17:24).
Wow! What a great way to start our day, isn’t it? The glory that Jesus is talking about has to do with an intimate kind of love — a love that permits no distance or separation from the object of its affection. It desires a complete union, an eternal union.
Jesus had this kind of relationship, and He wants us to experience it too! That blows my mind away (which is dangerous, because my kids tell me I don’t have much to blow to begin with. lol. Just kidding). But this divine love between our Lord and the Father was so important to him, he longed for the day when all of his children could see it with their own eyes! Maybe this is what John was referring to when he wrote, “Dear friends, now we are God’s children. but we have not yet been shown what we will be in the future, although, we do know that when Christ appears we will be like him because we will see him as he is!” How is He? He is united and intimate with Yahweh, the God of Creation; the Almighty God!
Isn’t that what we have been discussing? That is what we are to be anticipating! That is to be our desire and glory, as well.
Oh praise the Holy Name of Jesus Christ for such a glorious thought! Christ is so overjoyed with the glory of his intimate relationship with his Father, he aches to bring all of God’s children into heaven to behold it.
Our Lord was praying, “Father, they must see this glorious love we have. They must see for themselves how fully you give yourself to me. I want them to know how great I am loved — from before the world was created!” Before the first spark of light and before it was separated from darkness, He was loved!
Won’t that be something when we, the redeemed, are brought into God’s great banquet hall, to the heavenly feast, and are permitted to behold the love of the Father for His Son and our Savior?
All of the wondrous things that Jesus prayed for, will be answered on the glorious day when our Lord’s prayer answered! When our Father looks at his Blood-Purchased children, He will joyfully proclaim, “See, children, is it not so? Didn’t I tell you the truth? I love my Son! You have never seen such great love! This is perfect love! Now you see my glory, my love for him and his love for me.”
Oh man, we need to get a glimpse of this! The glory of Christ on that day will be when He reveals to us of Yahweh’s love for his Son! It is such an honor, such joy knowing that we serve a Savior who is loved so deeply. And sadly, it is terrifying to even consider that Lucifer cut himself off from such glory. He is has no love, any more. He has no father. Oh, how disappointing and sad.
I don’t want to meditate on this too much, but this has to be his greatest loss. Think about it a moment. This is the great loss of all Satan’s children, too. To exist without a witness or sense of a Heavenly Father’s love. To be eternally separated from that love! Even as we view it darkly now, we stand amazed and in open-mouthed wonder when we even consider His love for us. We are embraced in union, complete unity and oneness with Jesus while still on earth. Yahweh loves us as He loves his own Son. This truth is what brings us into rest and gives us peace.
