New 80-Majority Jerusalem Bill Has Loophole Enabling City to Be Divided

A law ostensibly meant to make it harder to cede parts of Jerusalem to a foreign entity – which contains a glaring loophole that allows Jerusalem to be divided – passed its final vote in the Knesset overnight on Monday.
The amendment to Basic Law: Jerusalem, requiring a vote of 80 out of the 120 MKs to give parts of the capital away – an absolute two-thirds majority – was proposed by Bayit Yehudi-faction chairwoman Shuli Moalem-Refaeli, with enthusiastic backing from her party leader Education Minister Naftali Bennett.
The newly requisite super-majority (more than just over half) comes in addition to the existing law requiring a referendum to give away any sovereign land, which includes Jerusalem. Although concessions in Jerusalem require an 80-MK vote, the bill can be changed with a 61-lawmaker absolute majority (as opposed to merely a majority of those present for the vote).
However, the bill also canceled the article in the Basic Law that prohibits changing Jerusalem’s municipal borders, such that the new version creates a loophole by which parts of Jerusalem can be turned into a new municipality, and then ceded to the Palestinians. Such land will still be subject to 80-MK vote and the Referendum Law.
That lacuna was created intentionally, following a push by Jerusalem Minister Ze’ev Elkin, who seeks to remove from Jerusalem’s municipal borders those villages populated by Arabs that are outside of the separation barrier.
Elkin said the new law “strengthens the defensive shield against those on the Left who want to try to harm the future of Israeli sovereignty in a united Jerusalem.”
“This isn’t a theoretical bill,” Bennett said in the Knesset. “It’s very practical. There have already been attempts to divide Jerusalem. You know very well that this isn’t about [Arab neighborhood] Kalandiya but about dividing the Holy Basin and the Old City. This isn’t just [former prime minister Ehud] Barak’s formula, but of those present here.”
Bennett added that, “[Zionist Union leaders] say Jerusalem’s Jewish neighborhoods belong to Israel, but the Old City and Holy Basin have a ‘special status.’ [Yesh Atid leader Yair] Lapid said the same. They’re talking about dividing Jerusalem.”
Bennett added: “Our understanding is clear. No Jew has the authority to give up any part of the land, nor does the Jewish people.”
Earlier Monday, Bezalel Smotrich of Bayit Yehudi, one of the Knesset’s most hawkish members, expressed discomfort with the part of the bill that allows for Jerusalem to be divided.
“It’s very problematic,” Smotrich told The Jerusalem Post. “It’s in the law out of necessity, because Elkin refused to promote it any other way. Bennett only wanted the first part,” meaning the super-majority.
The deliberations came down to whether to have an “all or nothing” attitude or to make incremental change, Smotrich explained.
In the opposition, MKs saw the bill as a way to prevent a peace agreement with the Palestinians.
Opposition leader Isaac Herzog (Zionist Union) argued that the bill “does not help any citizens, only because the person leading the coalition is Naftali Bennett. There is no connection between the Palestinians living in villages and Jerusalem.”
Meretz MK Esawi Frej posited that “there is no diplomatic solution without east Jerusalem being Palestinian. All other ways won’t help.”
MK Ofer Shelah of Yesh Atid said the coalition is contradicting itself, on the one hand requiring a super-majority, and on the other, “the neighborhoods that few know where they are will be turned into not-Jerusalem.”
“In every agreement, Jerusalem will be under Israeli sovereignty, but we can’t let the residents of [Arab neighborhood] Shuafat decide our fate,” Shelah added.

    Weapon Proliferation in Eastern Europe

The world moves steadily toward world war as Eastern Europe arms itself against Russian aggression.
The United States government has announced plans to sell weapons to the East European nation of Ukraine.
The sale of an undisclosed number of Javelin missile launchers was agreed upon by White House officials on December 22 after many years of hesitation.
As Ukrainian government forces continue to fight back against pro-Russian troops, the need for a counter to Russian-made armored vehicles has never been stronger. The antitank Javelins represent the very best in portable missile-launcher technology. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said, “The United States has decided to provide Ukraine enhanced defensive capabilities as part of our effort to help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity, to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to deter further aggression.”
National Interest magazine called the fgm-148 Javelin “one of the premier portable antitank missile systems in the world.”
In recent history, the United States has provided hundreds of such weapons to Baltic countries. On Dec. 18, 2015, it sold $55 million worth of Javelin missiles and Command Launch Units to Lithuania in response to increasing Russian aggression toward its former satellite states.
The decision to sell weapons to Ukraine, coming only weeks after the agreement to provide Javelin systems costing around $75 million to Georgia, has riled Russia. According to the Wall Street Journal:
The Javelins won’t end the conflict, but they will help Ukraine impose a higher cost on Mr. Putin for his aggression. The Kremlin reacted with anger and said the weapons could “derail” the peace process ….
The idea that Russia is committed to peace in the region is laughable considering the strong moves its military has made in attacking Georgia and annexing Crimea.
Eastern Europe’s purchase of defensive weapons technology is indicative of a growing trend in global military spending.
Forward Observer—which provides specialized threat intelligence, trend analysis and conflict monitoring—published an article on December 22 by analyst Jon Dougherty, who reports that worldwide military spending will reach $1.67 trillion in 2018. He wrote (emphasis added throughout):
The region with the fastest-growing defense expenditures, not surprisingly, is the Baltics region in Eastern Europe. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are facing increased pressure from Russia as Moscow looks to expand its influence westward.
Other countries in Russia’s ever expanding sights—such as Belarus, Ukraine and Georgia—are all following suit. Reports say that the pace of spending is reaching that of Cold War levels. Dougherty commented that this is a huge indication of just how tense and unstable the world is becoming.
Trumpet writer Richard Palmer reported in 2017 that countries like Lithuania and Ukraine are becoming increasingly desperate as Russia takes steps to reclaim the territory it lost at the end of the Cold War. With each failure by nato to check Russian expansion, they know that relying on their Western allies is equal to national suicide. Therefore, the solution is an increase in military armament.
Some might argue that the sale of Javelin missiles to Ukraine is an indication of America’s commitment to defending its ally’s sovereignty. However, while U.S. manufacturers are more than willing to sell weapons to the nations of Eastern Europe, the U.S. government is still hesitant about upholding its end of the nato security pact.
Under the Trump presidency, the U.S.’s reliability is being called into question even more. After three days of trans-Atlantic meetings in May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is undoubtedly one of the most influential leaders in the world, said that Europe could no longer depend on America.
In an event hosted by the National Interest, U.S. President Donald Trump made the following comments outlining the U.S.’s approach to foreign policy:
Our allies must contribute toward the financial, political and human costs of our tremendous security burden. But many of them are simply not doing so. … We have spent trillions of dollars over time on planes, missiles, ships, equipment—building up our military to provide a strong defense for Europe and Asia. The countries we are defending must pay for the cost of this defense—and, if not, the U.S. must be prepared to let these countries defend themselves.
Such comments have led European leaders to reevaluate their defense strategy. “The times in which we could rely fully on others—they are somewhat over,” Ms. Merkel said, speaking of Europe’s relationship with America. “We have to know that we must fight for our future on our own, for our destiny as Europeans.”
Thus, we see increased military spending in nations like Ukraine, Lithuania and other countries under the looming shadow of Russia. With U.S. support of nato at an all-time low, they are desperately doing what they can to prepare for a potential invasion.
Your Bible tells you what is going to happen next!
Revelation 17 shows that soon nato will collapse and the EU will consolidate into a powerful coalition of 10 nations. Herbert W. Armstrong foretold this outcome for years, and the events we are seeing today indicate this massive shift is beginning. With Russia further expanding its reach, soon weapons like Javelin missile launchers will not be enough. The countries of Eastern Europe will have no choice but to look to a “United States of Europe” for their defense.

Fake Sign, But Sadly, Not Fake News

Prank California highway signs ‘welcome’ felons, illegal immigrants and MS-13 gang members.
Drivers entering California are being greeted with signs proclaiming the liberal bastion an “OFFICIAL SANCTUARY STATE,” according to photos and videos circulating on social media appearing to show a prankster attached the official-looking blue signs just below legitimate “Welcome to California” markers.
The sanctuary state sign, which adds “Felons, Illegals and MS13 [gang members] welcome,” is similar to one hung up by a Malibu activist last year.
“Democrats Need The Votes!” reads a message on the signs, which are plastered with the Great Seal of California and a donkey, one of the symbols of the Democratic Party.
California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) spokesman Mark Dinger told Fox News on Tuesday that one of the signs was taken down yesterday on Interstate-15 near the California/Nevada border. A crew has been dispatched today to remove another sign spotted on I-40 near the border with Arizona, he added.
“For safety reasons, Caltrans does not permit any unauthorized signs in the state right of way,” the agency said in a statement. “If we haven’t done so already, Caltrans crews will take steps to remove them.”
California became a “sanctuary state” on Monday after a bill Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law in October officially took effect.
The law bars police in the nation’s most populous state from asking people about their immigration status or participating in federal immigration enforcement activities in most cases.
The Golden State is home to an estimated 2.3 million illegal immigrants.
The signs in photos and videos being circulated on social media are similar to one placed in Malibu in April 2017, after it declared itself a sanctuary city.
“Official Sanctuary City ‘Cheap Nannies and Gardeners Make Malibu Great!’ (Boyle Heights Not So Much.)” read the sign on the side of the Pacific Coast Highway, according to FOX5.
That sign was reported by a California State Parks employee to authorities but was already taken down by the time deputies arrived to investigate.
“This was not an official city sign,” Malibu Councilwoman Laura Rosenthal had told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s down, and it’s very disheartening that anyone would put up such an ugly sign.”
“Whoever did this spent some time on it,” she added.

Germany must allow ‘third gender’ from birth, top court rules

KARLSRUHE, Germany, January 2, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Germany’s top court has mandated legal recognition of a “third gender” from birth.
Limiting identity registration to natural, binary gender labels is discriminatory toward individuals who do not fall under the categories of “male” or “female,” the Federal Constitutional Court ruled.
The ruling puts Germany on a short list of countries, including Australia, India, New Zealand and Nepal, which recognize “intersex” identity on official documents. It’s the first European country to do so.
Germany’s legislators must pass a new regulation that offers the third gender option of “intersex,” according to the ruling handed down late last year. They have until the end of this year to do so.
The case was brought by an “intersex” German registered at birth as female, Fox News reported.
The petitioner, known as “Vanja” in court documents, appears and lives as a female but does not identify with either gender because of a chromosomal anomaly.
The top court ruled in Vanja’s favor after lower courts denied Vanja’s request to include “inter” and “various” as identifiers at birth.
German law previously only recognized male and female as possible options for birth registration of gender.
As of 2013, however, the law allowed parents of intersex individuals to leave the gender question blank as a legal third gender option.
That law was factored into a lower court ruling against Vanja. The court found that the question of whether the requirements for birth registration “violated intersexuals’ fundamental rights no longer arises.”
Vanja disagreed, saying at the time of the earlier court denial, “For intersex people, a third sex would finally record, after decades of denial and invisibility, the recognition of their existence.”
The Dritte Option (Third Option) advocacy group assisted Vanja in appealing the decision.
Intersex refers to a number of conditions where aspects of an individual’s physical or biological characteristics do not completely fit into a male or female category.
Transgender denotes gender confusion or dysphoria, where the individual identifies psychologically with the opposite gender.
The City of Berlin has signaled it will comply with the ruling, Interior Ministry spokesman Johannes Dimroth stating, “The government stands ready to implement it.”
The United States issued its first intersex birth certificate in December 2016 in New York City.

Blasphemous ‘gaytivity’ set uses two Josephs

LOS ANGELES, California, November 29, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – An LGBT activist and comedian is promoting a nativity scene with two St. Josephs and no Virgin Mary.
Some have dubbed this a “gaytivity scene.”
“Our neighbors’ two Joseph nativity is up & I’m beaming,” Cameron Esposito tweeted along with a photo of the blasphemous display.
One woman responded by tweeting a photo of her own “lesbian” nativity scene that uses two statues of Mary. The baby Jesus in that one is shown with a rainbow blanket.
Rhode Island’s Bishop Thomas Tobin called the nativity set with two Josephs “sacrilege.”
Just came across this photo of a “gay nativity” scene — two Josephs dressed in pink watching over the Christ Child. How sad that someone believes it’s okay (or funny or cool) to impose their own agenda on the holy Birth of Jesus. Pray for those who did so, for their change of heart, and that Jesus will forgive this sacrilege, this attack on the Christian Faith.
“Jesus had two dads and he turned out fine!” is a common sneer Christians face when they oppose same-sex “marriage.”
The truth is, everyone actually has two dads – our biological fathers on earth and our Heavenly Father.
And, we all actually have two mothers – our biological mothers on earth and the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is our spiritual mother.
That doesn’t mean that deliberately depriving a child of his father or mother for the sake of adult desires is justified.
Every human being has a mother and a father. Each of them provides something unique to any children conceived by their union. Tragedies don’t always allow kids to be raised by both parents, but ideally they should be.
And isn’t it interesting that those who twist Christianity to promote same-sex relationships are usually the same people clamoring for the Church to get out of the public square?

Special papal commission on sexual abuse ceases to exist

December 20, 2017 (Catholic Culture) – As of yesterday, the Pope’s special commission on sexual abuse formally ceased to exist.
The Commission for the Protection of Minors was established by Pope Francis in 2013, for a four-year term that began on December 17 of that year. That term has now officially expired.
Vatican-watchers fully expect that Pope Francis will extend the group’s mandate (or, at this point, renew it)—although nobody knows whether or not he will renew the terms of the current members. And the group wasn’t likely to hold meetings during the Christmas season anyway, so no real harm has been done by allowing the group’s formal authority to lapse.
Nevertheless, at a time when an Australian royal commission is lambasting the Catholic Church for its handling of abuse complaints, it’s noteworthy that the Vatican has not announced the timely renewal of the papal commission. Is this just one more sign of the chaotic management style now prevailing at the Holy See? Or is it, more ominously, another sign that despite all the promises about making the issue a top priority, when it comes to the actual working of the papal commission, nobody at the Vatican is paying attention?
