Oh Dear God, Has It Come To That?

A Pastor friend of mine told me about a time when the church’s board became aware of an impending financial crisis within the church. He didn’t give me all of the details, but during a board meeting he, as the Pastor, suggested that they spend some in prayer about the situation, when suddenly, one of the board members exclaimed, “Oh dear God, has it come to that?
Well, I hope the board member was joking. Because it being a church and all . . . ya’ know what I mean? Well I was praying about my message this morning when deep in my spirit I felt the Spirit of God telling me that someone out there was also facing a very difficult situation. And in their prayers they are asking the Lord to give them the peace they need for that problem. That they need strength and guidance because they just can’t “figure it out.”
Well, my first reaction was that their biggest problem was trying to figure it out on their own. When we attempt to fix things on our own, we screw everything up. Sometimes, we even make matters worse! My friends, always remember Proverbs 16:9! It says, “A person plans his course, but the Lord directs his steps.” You need to calm yourself down and seek His directions.
Whenever you face something insurmountable, allow your Lord to work on your behalf. Ask Him to guide you and to flood your soul with confidence in Christ and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Submit to His love and His ability to fix whatever situation you are stuck on.
Brother (or sister), as your Pastor, your friend, a close confidant or whatever role you feel I fill in your life, I feel the Lord wants to comfort you with the assurance that He cares about the problem. “Don’t be fearful. Your problem is not too hard for Him. He wants to assist you. He is your Helper, and He will joyfully come alongside you and share His strength with you. He will show you the things that are coming and will give you the right words to say.
“Stand strong and stand confident. It may look impossible and you can’t see any way out of your concern. But that is okay, I know the Way, and I will show it to you. Just trust Me and through the Spirit I sent, you will receive the peace you need. My Spirit is here to lead you and to guide you, so follow Him, and the confusion and stress will wash away and bring the clarity and peace you are seeking.”
Oh man, I should have warned some of you who are new to the Morning Messages. Oops. Because I am continually praying for you the Lord will sometimes reveal concerns or needs to me. In fact, a couple of my friends love it when the Lord puts them on my heart and they “just happen” to receive a call from me.
But don’t worry. If He does alert me to something going on, it is for your benefit, not shame or judgment. But some folks will look at you funny when they find out that the Lord “speaks” to you. And no, it is not like what you see on movies. And yes, I am the same way in real life. Not just in emails. Ask the folks in my church.
Take some time to read and meditate Jeremiah 32:27; John 14:26; John 16:13. Those are only the start. Find some other passages that the Spirit will show you, and put your faith on those passages. Allow them to become Rhema for you.
Allow the Spirit of God to minister to you. Allow Him to rule and govern your peace. Just calm yourself down, take a deep breath. Let it out and pray:
Holy Spirit, I need Your peace. I need Your strength. I need Your guidance. Please help me become more sensitive to Your leading at every turn, and flood my soul with confidence in Christ and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. I am willing to follow You.

With these Morning Messages, I take you on guided tours to, as Bunyan described, the Celestial City. At times we linger at corners familiar and unseen. And explore the depths of our faith along the way.
The trail is long, but there’s no hurry. Though we do need to stock up on supplies for the way, and that’s where I need your help. If you enjoy these messages, please consider becoming a contributing member of this tour group. It will be very much appreciated.
