Over 1,000 legal complaints for treason have been filed by German citizens against Chancellor Angela Merkel since the beginning of the migrant crisis in 2015, German newspapers reported today. The revelation comes less than a month until the German parliamentary election in which Merkel is hoping to win her fourth term.
In the autumn of 2015, Merkel’s decision to open Germany’s borders to millions of illegal migrants by suspending the EU-wide border controls had triggered a huge influx of migrants that continues to this day.
Merkel still feels no remorse for her actions that have led to a number of Islamist attacks on European soil perpetrated by Muslim migrants and a huge migrant crime wave in own her country.
This weekend, Merkel again defended her policy of open borders for illegal migrants. “I would take all the important decisions of 2015 the same way again,” Merkel told the German newspaper Die Welt in an interview.
French news agency AFP reported:
More than 1,000 criminal complaints for high treason have been filed against German Chancellor Angela Merkel since the height of the refugee crisis in 2015, local media reported Wednesday.
Most of the complaints come from supporters of the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany party, which is poised to win seats in the federal parliament for the first time in next month's general election, the daily Mannheimer Morgen newspaper said. (…)
Federal prosecutors in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe are responsible for investigating state security offences and are required by law to review all criminal complaints of this nature.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) remains the only political party in the country’s electoral fray that opposes Merkel’s disastrous open borders policy. At the onset of the Migrant Crisis, the AfD had called for a nationwide referendum on the issue of mass migration, arguing that in a democracy the people had a right to decide on the single most important issue that threatens to fundamentally change the demography of Europe for the foreseeable future.
“The AfD is the only real opposition party which stands up for the rule of law, in Germany and in Europe," Alice Weidel, the leader of the AfD, said.
Most opinion polls commissioned by Germany’s mainstream media are showing Merkel with a double-digit lead over her Social Democratic rival, Martin Schulz. These polls also show the AfD above the modest 10-pecent mark.
While the media are eager to crown Merkel well ahead of the September 24 vote, there is good reason for caution as almost half of German voters are telling the pollsters that they are "undecided."
