Virginia: Muslim who tried to join U.S. military to imitate Fort Hood jihadi pleads guilty to lying on applications
In joining the military, Shivam Patel apparently wanted to become another Nidal Malik Hasan, the Muslim U.S. Army Major who murdered 13 people while screaming “Allahu akbar” at Fort Hood in 2009: he expressed “support for Maj. Nidal Hasan, who fatally shot 13 soldiers in 2009 while serving at Fort Hood in Texas, calling the attack ‘completely justified’ as he believed that Hasan died a martyr and he wanted to become one too.”
Actually, Hasan is still alive.

A Virginia man who wanted to commit jihad in support of the Islamic State lied about his trips overseas while applying to join the U.S. military, prosecutors said.Shivam Patel, 28, pleaded guilty to making false statements on his military application and passport fraud Thursday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Virginia.In 2016, Patel was working in China when he flew to Jordan where he tried to join a “Muslim army,” prosecutors said.He was then arrested and deported back to the U.S. where he applied to join the Army and Air Force.Prosecutors also say Patel expressed his desire to commit jihad to an undercover FBI agent.On his applications, Patel didn’t disclose his trips to China and Jordan. A recruiter asked Patel to see his passport but claimed he accidentally threw it away and needed to apply for a new one….
