She's bucked the trend for years by being an outspoken Republican in Hollywood; now African-American actress Stacey Dash is taking things to the next level by seeking to represent California in the House of Representatives.
Dash submitted paperwork on Monday to seek California's 44th District and area that includes Compton, Watts and the harbor region of Los Angeles.
Dash registered her website to run, dashtodc.com on February 14 and while the site is live it doesn't contain any information other than a logo. The star of Clueless and many other films and TV shows, began teasing fans on her Twitter account in early February about the possibility of a run.
As CNN reports, Dash became a hot commodity as a conservative pundit after she endorsed Mitt Romney and was snapped up by Fox News as a commentator.
The 51-year-old, who wrote a memoir called "There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative," has been a polarizing figure since she made the transition from beloved 1990s actor to conservative pundit. She is known for taking controversial stances on issues affecting people of color. In 2016, she called the #OscarsSoWhite boycott "ludicrous" and said there was no need for Black History Month. During the Oscars that same here, host Chris Rock jokingly brought Dash to the stage as the Academy's new director of "minority outreach program."
The district Dash wants to represent is currently represented by Democrat Nanette Barragán and was solidly behind Hillary Clinton in the last presidential race. However voting records show voters will back Republicans including President George W. Bush, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
