Author journalist, and Childhood friend of Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the only man who allegedly witnessed the Supreme Court nominee sexually assault Dr. Christine Blasey Ford sent a letter to the Chairman and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee challenging the third accuser’s claims of sexual misconduct.
The letter stated, “The allegations in the Swetnick affidavit are so bizarre, that even while suffering from my addiction, I would remember actions so outlandish. I categorically deny them.”
The letter went on to challenge Swetnick’s claims that Judge and Kavanaugh drugged women and participated in gang raping intoxicated women back while they were in high school.
For any that missed it, here is some background on the allegations as reported by NBC earlier this week:
A third woman came forward Wednesday morning to accuse Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. In this case, the woman accused him of engaging in repeated lewd behavior with women at parties in the early 1980s, and of putting drugs or alcohol in punch to cause women to become inebriated so they could be “gang raped” by a group of male partygoers. The woman, Julie Swetnick, said that she was the victim of one of these gang rapes in approximately 1982. She did not allege that Kavanaugh participated in the rape, but said he and his friend Mark Judge were present when it occurred, adding that she was incapacitated by a drug placed in her drink without her consent and was unable to fight off her attackers.
“I will cooperate with any law enforcement agency that is assigned to confidentially investigate these allegations,” the letter concluded.
Judge wrote in a letter released Thursday evening, “As I stated in my attorney, Barbara Van Gelder’s September 18, 2018, letter, I did not ask to be involved in this matter nor did anyone ask me to be involved. We have told the Committee that I do not want to comment about these events publicly.”
Judge has also issued a previous statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee denying all the allegations levied against him and Kavanaugh.
