Cruz Slams FDA’s ‘Radical Gender Ideology’

(Patriot.Buzz) – Following revelations that a team leader supported approving puberty blockers for transgender minors, Senator Ted Cruz slammed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“These emails are beyond troubling,” Cruz stated, accusing the Biden-Harris administration of prioritizing a “radical gender ideology” over child safety.
He added that “these emails strongly suggest that the FDA not only participated in those campaigns but actively knew that advancing them was endangering children.”
The controversy centers around an email from FDA clinical team leader Shannon Sullivan.
In this communication dated January 25, 2022, Sullivan discussed the results of a safety review conducted between 2016 and 2017 on GnRH agonists: drugs that inhibit puberty-triggering hormones.
She reported that while the review, which involved children with early-onset puberty, indicated no increase in bone fracture risks, it did find higher risks of depression, suicidal thoughts and seizures.
Despite these findings, Sullivan supported the FDA’s approval of these drugs for gender transitioning purposes.
She also cited their high costs and lack of insurance coverage as significant barriers for transgender minors.
She noted the ongoing need for and lack of pharmaceutical companies producing GnRH agonists specifically for transgender patients.
America First Legal senior adviser Ian Prior criticized the FDA’s stance as both shocking and unacceptable.
“The advocates of these brutal practices on children claim that they are necessary to prevent suicide and depression, but in reality, the treatments themselves cause the very thing they claim they are trying to prevent,” Prior remarked.
The email surfaced as part of a lawsuit America First Legal filed against the FDA, accusing the agency of illegally withholding records about the off-label use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in children.
Additional concerns have been raised about puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, including potential side effects like sterilization, blood clots, high blood pressure and weight gain.
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health has documented severe side effects, including liver cancer in teens and decreased sexual function.
The controversy also extends to drugs like Lupron, used for both early puberty and to chemically castrate sex offenders. It is now being prescribed off-label to aid in gender transitioning for young boys.
