Shabbat Inspiration

As David prepares to escape from King Saul, Jonathan reaffirms their everlasting bond in a sign of true friendship. Though Jonathan was extremely righteous, Scripture finds fault in the way he sent David on his way without any food. David traveled in severe hunger to Nov where he urgently requested provisions. From Jonathan's mistake, we are taught to always send off guests with enough food for their journey. Today in Israel, the sad reality is that many children from disadvantaged families simply do not have enough to eat. TikvaHope supports a network of after-school youth centers across Israel that offers hope for disadvantaged children and struggling families. At Tikva’s afternoon centers, each child receives a hot, nutritious lunch as soon as they arrive. As a result, they are alert and ready to concentrate throughout the afternoon. Before they go home, the children receive a light dinner – to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry.

Turquoise Hamsa Necklace

This hamsa necklace is painted with enamel and decorated with beautiful Swarovski crystals and bead patterns. The hamsa is a common motif in Judaism, thought to protect against the “evil eye.” It is derived from a common symbol often used by Sephardic Jews who hailed from Middle Eastern countries. Comes with a 16 inch silver chain.

Today's Israel Photo

The Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem's Old City. In 1948, Jews were expelled from here, and a Jordanian commander boasted that "for the first time in 1,000 years, not a single Jew remains in the Jewish quarter...the Jews' return here is impossible." In 1967, the Jews miraculously returned and rebuilt, just as foretold by our prophets.
