Nearing the end of his life, Joseph made his children swear that upon their
exodus from Egypt they would take his bones with them to be buried in
Israel. Accordingly, prior to redemption, Moses recovered Joseph's bones for
travel. We learn from our progenitors the importance of proper burial under
natural circumstances. The ZAKA organization holds the sacred duty of
performing these mandates under the most unnatural circumstances of death. Be
it a car crash or terror attack, ZAKA volunteers work unabated to collect bodies
and unfortunately even body parts so that every person merits a proper Jewish
burial in its entirety.
