Senior North Korean officials doubled-down on their previous threats to detonate a massive hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean; warning the United States and Japan to take dictator Kim Jong Un’s war-of-words “literally.”
The communist nation’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Pil told CNN this week that the US and its allies in the region should prepare themselves for the above-ground nuclear test, adding that Pyongyang “has always brought its words into action.”
“The foreign minister is very well aware of the intentions of our supreme leader, so I think you should take his words literally,” Ri said. “The US is talking about a military option and even practicing military moves […] If you think this will lead to diplomacy, you’re deeply mistaken.”
The North Korean official’s comments echo those he made during the United Nations General Assembly in September, warning world leaders that Kim Jong Un was preparing to test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean in a show of force against President Trump.
The President will visit the Korean peninsula next month during his trip to Asia, and is still mulling the possibility of a personal tour of the de-militarized zone between North and South Korea; placing Trump and dictator Kim Jong Un mere miles from each other.
