Beginning in 1995, an area of Norris Geyser Basin, centered about 400 m northwest of Perpetual Spouter, erupted with intense hydrothermal activity, with three small springs appearing in a 20- by 50-m area.
Hypothesized transfer of fluids outward from the caldera and into the upper crust is consistent with the observed transition to subsidence in the caldera.
….much of the observed vertical fluctuations of the caldera could be explained by corresponding fluctuations in the accumulation and discharge rates of exsolved magmatic fluids.
