Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is calling state lawmakers into a special session on Monday to push police reform eight days after the police shooting of Jacob Blake. The GOP says they need more time to figure out their next steps. In other news, Evers urged President Trump to reconsider his planned trip to Kenosha on Tuesday, saying the president’s presence will only “hinder our healing.” Oregon’s governor says state police are being deployed to Portland to help local police deal with ongoing nightly protests. One person was shot and killed Saturday as a large caravan of President Trump supporters and Black Lives Matter protesters clashed in downtown Portland. City leaders have denounced the violence while President Trump criticized their ability to contain it. Democrats in Congress are calling the Trump administration’s decision to cancel election security briefings “outrageous” after the change was announced on Friday. Election Day is about nine weeks away. Congress will still be briefed on election security by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, but through written reports instead of in-person, verbal briefings.
