(RightIsRight.co) – Asserting that it runs counter to God’s intention for creation, Pope Francis declared that global warming poses a significant threat to life on Earth.

The Pope’s message, read aloud by his aide Monsignor Paolo Braida following the weekly Angelus prayer, called for a need to address climate change, which he sees as endangering future generations and contradicting God’s plan for life.

Despite a recent lung infection that led to the cancellation of several appointments, Pope Francis announced his compulsion to address this issue. He plans to attend the COP 28 conference in Dubai to further advocate for environmental protection. Pope Francis has consistently prioritized the fight against climate change throughout his decade-long pontificate. In October, he issued an apostolic exhortation titled “Laudate Deum” (Praise God), in which he warned of the world’s imminent collapse due to global warming. In this letter, he specifically called out the United States and cited it as a primary contributor to the climate crisis.

The Pope has also criticized climate change “deniers,” arguing that global warming has anthropic origins due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. He pointed to the current concentration of 423 parts per million as of June 2023 as evidence. He further declared that the frequent extreme weather events and other environmental disturbances are manifestations of the earth’s response to this crisis.

Francis has often criticized the “politics of fear” and “alarmism” as detrimental to democracy but has utilized the fear of a looming climate catastrophe to galvanize action. He described the effects of climate change as “catastrophic” and a significant challenge for humanity.

In contrast, a group of over 1,600 scientists, including two Nobel laureates, issued the “World Climate Declaration” in August, challenging the notion of a climate emergency.

They criticized the current state of climate science, arguing against the effectiveness of climate models, the classification of carbon dioxide as a pollutant, and the link between global warming and natural disasters.

The Declaration concluded that there is no climate emergency and, therefore, no need for panic or alarm, reflecting a stark contrast to the Pope’s apocalyptic stance.
