(RightIsRight.co) – Highlighting deep divisions within the Democratic Party, the president of the North Carolina Democratic Party’s progressive wing, Ryan Jenkins, is under fire for his recent attack on the state party’s Jewish Caucus.

In a shocking statement, Jenkins proclaimed, “If the Democratic Party caves to it, that’s the end of the Democratic Party. We’re not Democrats, we’re the Jewish Caucus. We’re a Zionist group. Because they control everything.” These remarks reveal a troubling sentiment within the progressive faction of the Democratic Party.Jenkins’ comments were triggered by a vote on whether the state Democratic Party should recognize the Jewish Caucus as an affiliated organization. The party ultimately voted against recognition, with 17 votes against, 16 in favor, and 17 abstentions.Jenkins was among those who abstained and accused the Jewish Caucus of employing pressure tactics to sway the vote in their favor. He also dismissed its members as “rich white people.” He questioned the necessity of incorporating this caucus, given the existence of an Interfaith Caucus and the absence of any religion-specific caucus in the party’s history.

The Anti-Defamation League warns that “anti-Jewish tropes are often rooted in conspiratorial thinking related to disproportionate Jewish control or power.” Jenkins’ comments echo these troubling tropes, indicating a potential strain of bias within the progressive wing. The North Carolina Democratic Party swiftly distanced itself from Jenkins’ inflammatory remarks, emphasizing that he does not speak for the party and that his statements do not accurately depict the situation.

Jeffrey Bierer, the leader of the Jewish Caucus, expressed deep disappointment with Jenkins’ attacks, highlighting that the caucus was initiated to combat antisemitism, fight fascism, and support a two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict.
