The Love of the Lion of JudahThe Lion of Judah is a powerful and amazing Biblical character who points directly to Jesus Christ as the LION. In Jesus’s first coming, the literal Son of God arrives as a lamb - the Lamb of God. In the Gospel of John, we are given the TRUTH regarding the Lamb of God by John the Baptist: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). This title carries profound theological weight and connects Jesus to the sacrificial practices of ancient Israel. Isaiah’s Prophecy clearly supports the purpose of Jesus coming as a Lamb. Centuries before John’s proclamation, the prophet Isaiah vividly described God’s Servant as one who would be “like a lamb that is led to slaughter” (Isaiah 53:7). God knew the Jewish people would resonate with the imagery of a Lamb, as lambs had long been offered as sacrifices to God to cleanse people of their sins. While gentiles arrogantly think Jesus died on the Cross for them, the TRUTH is that Jesus died for the Jewish people - to restore them back to the Hebrew God. However, when a non-Jewish person becomes born-again in Christ, they are graphed into the pure Jewish bloodline of Jesus, the Lion of Judah, from the tribe of Judah. Thus, when a gentile believer offends the Jewish people, they offend their true self AND Jesus. The masses might not like it, but Jesus came as the Lamb, was slaughtered, died, and rose from the dead FOR the Tribe of Judah. Thus, the logic in His Father naming Him THE LION OF JUDAH. Before Jesus could come as the Lion of Judah in His second coming, He first had to be slaughtered like a lamb - become the final sacrifice for the sins of humanity. The lamb represents Jesus’s blood sacrifice.Many modern-day “Christians” keep Jesus frozen in the image of a little lamb, which ultimately denies Him of His present position as the Lion of Judah - who will bring judgment, revenge, and rule the earth with an iron rod. As a result, the lion’s share of believers remains stuck in the rhetoric that Jesus is all about PEACE. While this is true regarding His first coming, His second coming is noted in Revelation as coming with a sword in hand & fire in His eyes. Oddly, this misconception causes modern believers to resist the prophetic doctrines within the book of Revelation. To understand the significance of Jesus being the Lion of Judah, we must explore the Scriptures and the prophetic truths they reveal. 1. The Prophetic RootsGenesis 49:8-12In the book of Genesis, Jacob gathers his sons and speaks prophetically about their future role in the End Times prophecies. When he addresses Judah, he declares: “Judah (Lion), your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons (Jewish people) will bow down to you. You are a lion’s cub, Judah (Jesus); you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness (Bride of Christ)—who dares to rouse him? The scepter (iron rod) will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff (Shepherd) from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his (Lion of Judah). He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch; he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood (Christ’s shed blood) of grapes. His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk.” (Genesis 49:8-12) In these verses, God reveals the prophetic knowledge of Jesus coming as the conquerer, a victorious King of kings who would descend from Judah’s lineage. This lion, foretold by Jacob, points to none other than Jesus Himself, Yeshua, God in human form—the Lion of the tribe of Judah. 2. Revelation’s ConnectionRevelation 5:5In the book of Revelation, Jesus’s beloved John inhabits a vision where one of the Heavenly 24 elders reveals the details surrounding Christ’s Second Coming as the Lion of Judah. “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5)Here, the Lion of Judah emerges as the triumphant conqueror, the One who can unlock the mysteries of God’s prophetic plans. Jesus, the Lion, fulfills the promise and prophecy of God’s Word from Genesis to the book of Revelation. 3. The Love of the LionThe Lion of Judah embodies both strength and love:Strength: Like a lion, Jesus is fierce, unyielding, and unwavering in His purpose. He conquered sin, death, and darkness through His sacrificial love on the cross. When He returns, He will punish all those who refuted the offer of salvation in and through Himself - past & present of the moment of His return. Love: The same Lion who roars with authority also extends His love to humanity. His sacrifice—greater than any earthly king’s—offers redemption, forgiveness, and eternal life. Jesus, the Lion of Judah, will keep His promise to all those who were martyred for the sake of Christ, by delivering eternal damnation to all those who offended His Bride. This will be the final earthly act of love Jesus displays for His Bride and the Heavenly hosts. As believers, we find trust, love, hope, and confidence in the Lion of Judah. His love which includes the punishment of evil-doers, is beyond our understanding, and His roar echoes through eternity as a sweet act of love. While many will fall away before the Rapture, those who are alert to the theology of love and punishment will not only embrace both His strength and His love, but also realize that the book of Revelation is the greatest love letter Jesus inspired to be written for His people.
In review, the Lion of Judah represents the perfect blend of power. correction, punishment, pure love, and compassion—a love that roars and redeems. As we approach the culmination of the End Times, the love of the Lion of Judah remains both our anchor and our hope. In these final days, let us hold fast to the sound doctrines of the book of Revelation, which confirms we are more than conquers, redeemed ones, and chosen Bridal members of the Lion of Judah.
