The political left is coming after the First Amendment with everything it has. That’s why former President Obama went to Stanford University this month and claimed free speech rights don’t apply to social media platforms.
Democrats’ agenda is chipping away at the First Amendment is also clear by the visceral reactions tied to Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchasing Twitter earlier this week. Leftists completely lost it, calling Musk everything from dangerous to racist.
All of this comes against the background of the Tesla CEO committing to making free speech the bedrock of how Twitter operates.
The war on free speech extends far beyond these examples. Currently, Democratic lawmakers like Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) are coming up with various ways to take pitchforks to the First Amendment, according to PJ Media.
What to Know About Omar’s Anti-Free Speech Agenda
Of all the pressing matters happening in the country today, Omar has determined that tackling “Islamophobia” is a necessary course of action.
The congresswoman recently took a trip to Pakistan where she spent time with the country’s former prime minister, Imran Khan.
It has since come out that Omar spoke with Khan about a series of issues impacting Muslims; although, what really stood out was the Democrat’s praise of the former prime minister’s work.
This work entails advocating for violence against individuals who verbally offend Muhummad; this comes in addition to Khan’s advocacy for western nations to roll back free speech rights in order to avoid cases of “Islamophobia.”
If Khan had things his way, the West would furthermore have laws in place that ban the so-called “blasphemy” of Sharia.
Quite frankly, it’s terrifying that a sitting member of the United States Congress would applaud and welcome these sorts of ideas. It certainly demonstrates the lack of regard that Omar has for the First Amendment and other inalienable rights in America.
Very Much On-Brand for Democrats
While Omar’s decision to align herself with anti-free speech advocates is disturbing, it’s also on-brand for the Democrat Party.
Khan’s claim that free speech should be limited in order to avoid Islamophobia is just another version of Democrats calling for online censorship as a means of preventing “misinformation.”
At the end of the day, Democrats are always going to have a reason or excuse for why they think trampling on the First Amendment is acceptable. Yet, none of this changes the importance of upholding and defending free speech, along with other rights in this country.

The Daily Wire’s Candace Owens appeared on an episode of “The Rubin Report” on Wednesday, and what she had to say should ring true for every American, regardless of skin color.
During an interview with BlazeTV host Dave Rubin, Owens spoke about her political journey, how the Democratic Party creates and promotes a victim mentality in black voters, the results of Democrat policies on black literacy rates, and how ‘utopian’ ideas such as “the war on poverty” fail the people that they intend to help.
While also promoting her new book, “Blackout,” Owens explained how black Americans can choose a “victor mentality” instead of embracing the victimhood mentality promoted by the left, and went on to destroy the left-wing narrative of systemic racism in the United States.
“Forget the victim mentality. Develop a victor mentality,” she said. “Look back at your ancestors. Look back at your grandparents. Look back at what they did, what they lived through, the seeds that they planted, so that you can afford to be in the circumstance that you are in today.”
“If you are a black American, and you are breathing in the United States today, you are the luckiest among the luckiest of black people that have ever lived anywhere on the face of the planet,” Owens added. “That is an incredible statement. In all of human history, the luckiest black people that have ever lived on the face of the human planet are the ones that are living and breathing in America today.”
Owens went on to pose a challenge to find anyone who would choose to move back to Africa and give up the comforts and luxuries of living in the United States.
“Find me a black American that will tell you they want to move back to Africa… I, Candace Owens, am pledging that I will book the flight for you, if renounce your U.S. citizenship, for you to go live back in Africa,” she said.

There used to be a middle ground in this country that Republicans and Democrats would battle for. Moderates felt at home in either party, confident that they would still have a home in their party of choice as they fought for whatever their primary issue was. If you felt strongly about women’s rights, you could call yourself a Democrat and not have to sign on to lunatic ideas like infanticide or the rejection of biology. No longer.
To call yourself a Democrat means that you must support abortion on demand and pretend there are no biological differences between men and women. For the last few years moderate Democrats have smiled and endured the lunatic wing of their party, hoping that the current fads would fade into the background.
There was a hope that there would be a return to classical liberalism to combat the acceptance of the nonsensical equity agenda and the impossible green agenda. Instead, the Democratic party has continued to descend further and further into non-reality.
As a result, stalwart democrats like Dave Rubin and Bill Maher have found themselves labeled conservatives. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, they did not leave the party, the party left them. As parents across the country deal with school boards who seem intent on making their children feel bad about themselves because of the color of their skin and teachers who want to have sexuality discussions with kindergartners, one thing is clear: the middle ground no longer exists.
If you do not buy into the narrative of the current regime wholeheartedly you are branded a racist or worse. The Democratic party is currently held hostage by far-left Marxists who hate America. There is no place for moderates in the Democratic party anymore.
The Democrats are headed for generational losses in the mid-terms this November. When that happens, they can take stock of the situation and ask themselves what needs to change to become relevant again. If history is any predictor, they will refuse to do that and instead will double or triple down on the exact policies that led to their historic defeat. We may say a situation where the Democrat party slides into oblivion. Conservatives must be careful not to get overconfident and make sure to stay connected to their constituents and reality.
