January 3, 2024 Pastor Chris Avell of Dad’s Place—a church in Bryan, Ohio—is facing criminal charges. Why? Because Pastor Chris opened his church 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to serve his community, especially the homeless. During the cold winter months, about a dozen people have been staying in the church nightly on an emergency basis as they have nowhere else to go. The city sent a letter ordering the church to stop allowing overnight guests or face criminal prosecution. This past Sunday—on New Year’s Eve—police showed up at the church. They handed the Pastor a packet of multiple charges and violations. First Liberty is representing Pastor Chris, as he’s facing 18 criminal charges for violating the city’s zoning laws. And that list of criminal violations grows every day. Attorney Jeremy Dys and Pastor Chris appeared on Fox News last night discussing the situation: WATCH NOW » “I was spiritually homeless and God provided a home for me. He’s put a burden on my heart for the homeless,” Pastor Chris told Fox News. “Many of these people have been rejected by their families and cast aside by their communities. So, if the church isn’t willing to lay down it’s life for them, then who will? This is what we’re called to do.” “The city would rather kick these folks to the curb in the cold outdoor months of December and early January than allow the church to remain open 24/7 to those who need it the most,” Dys said. “It’s unconscionable. We’re going to hold them accountable.” What the city is doing to Pastor Chris isn’t just wrong. It’s illegal and unconstitutional. Poverty Exodus Caravan Storms Toward US, Mexico Aids Illegal Trek

A new wave of migrants, calling themselves the Poverty Exodus, has once again set their sights on the United States, with no intention of respecting the rule of law. This caravan of over 6,000 individuals is on the move, and instead of facing any resistance from Mexican authorities, they are being escorted and given special treatment as they make their way north.

These migrants, who proudly brandished a banner with their caravan’s name and carried a white cross, have made it clear that their ultimate goal is to illegally enter the United States for economic reasons. Some have even boldly stated that they plan to stay in the U.S. for 5-7 years before returning home, all while demanding that President Joe Biden provide them with assistance along their journey.

Despite the overwhelming number of individuals in this caravan, the Mexican National Guard has not only failed to deter their journey, but has actively assisted in providing crowd and traffic control as they progress towards Mexico City. Instead of enforcing the country’s immigration laws, these officials have been instructed to simply accompany the caravan and prevent any potential issues, effectively turning a blind eye to the violation of borders and sovereignty.

As the caravan continues its northward trajectory, Mexico City has become entangled in the midst of this crisis, as a surge of migrants has overrun shelters and immigration stations. It is clear that Mexico has become a mere transit point for these individuals, with the city serving as a launch pad for their further journey towards the U.S. border, where they hope to exploit the asylum system for their own gain. 

The situation at hand raises serious concerns about the lack of border security and the growing strain on resources, as Mexican officials appear to be complicit in enabling the illegal entry of thousands into the United States. It is imperative that the Biden administration take decisive action and work in collaboration with Mexico to address this issue before it escalates into an even more dire and uncontrollable situation.
