Reiner’s Thoughts on Weinstein? Two Words: Clarence Thomas

"Harvey Weinstein's disgusting. But…"

The Left isn’t known for playing defense. Decades of playing offense through the politics of personal destruction has been a consistent modus operandi which has worked for them -- at least up until the election of Donald Trump to President. So why stop now?
Director/outspoken lefty Rob Reiner brought this misleading methodology front and center Tuesday, deflecting criticism of the Left by referencing one of the their favorite lies of the 90’s: that conservative Supreme Court then-nominee Clarence Thomas was a proven sexual predator.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Archie Bunker’s son-in-law was asked about Harvey Weinstein, the left-wing Hollywood studio juggernaut against whom a veritable mountain of evidence is rapidly building, condemning him for innumerable sexual misdeeds. Reiner gave a real Meathead answer:
“Here's the thing – Harvey Weinstein's disgusting, let’s just say that. But Fox News had that — Clarence Thomas.”
Uhhh, no. For one thing, Fox News was launched five years after the Clarence Thomas hearings. For another, in 1991, as Thomas was being considered for a position on the highest court in the land, Anita Hill—a former assistant to Thomas—came to the national forefront with claims of Thomas’s inappropriate comments to her when she served under him for a short time nearly ten years prior. Carried on the shoulders of Democratic leaders, she took her accusations to Thomas’s confirmation hearings, and no impropriety was ever proven. Nevertheless, the Left immediately and continuously labeled Thomas a symbol of sexual harassment in America.
And leave it to Meathead to connect the dots between a conservative accused of inappropriate comments by only one woman with no supplied evidence, and a Democratic paragon with a seemingly unlimited number of accusations of extreme harassment, assault, and rape being leveled against him. This is the Left’s favorite defense: an interference-run application of the good offense of baseless claims. “Rape? What rape? Did I mention that Clarence Thomas was a perverted miscreant three decades ago?”
Reiner didn’t stop with Thomas, though. He, of course, went to the Left’s new favorite lie regarding sexual misbehavior — the new Clarence Thomas, if you will: “How can (women) go up against the world that they’re in when they vote for a person who actually admitted to sexually harassing women, who becomes President of the United States?…We elected this man who actually said he abused women.”
In the words of 2016-presidential-debate Trump, “Wrong.” A behind-the-scenes 2012 tape released during the 2016 election revealed then-TV star Trump’s comment that some women would let powerful men grab their unmentionables. That’s a far cry from actual assault, but why should leftists let a little thing like facts ruin their relentless narrative of a Republican Rapist-in-Chief?
Unfounded accusations are the Left’s preferred surrogate for substance in the arena of debate. It's how they skirt the issues, and how they distract from their hypocrisy and corruption within. It’s the drumbeat to which they march. And the beat goes on.
