Germany: One dead, 16 injured in apartment fire, Muslim migrant arrested for arson

The Islamic State in September 2014 exhorted Muslims: “Disperse those behind them wherever you may find them. Rig the roads with explosives for them. Attack their bases. Raid their homes. A massive fire in a multi-storey residential building left at least 16 people injured in the East German city of Leipzig on Thursday. One person reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries while another 15 people were hospitalised with suspected smoke poisoning. A total of 34 people were evacuated from the building. Following the incident, a fire brigade reportedly discovered the body of a person on the fourth floor. The identity of the victim has not yet been identified. According to police, the fire is believed to have broken out in the stairwell of the building and then spread to the roof. A total crew of 60 firefighters, 26 vehicles, 25 paramedics and 60 police officers were dispatched to the scene during the night. An investigation into the incident has been launched. A possibility of an arson attack is being considered. In connection with the incident, a 32-year old Syrian man, who is believed to be an inhabitant of the house, was provisionally arrested.
