Kamala Harris’s Head Staffer Resigns, Claiming Poor Treatment of Staff and No Plan To Win
A New York Times article published Friday claims Senator Kamala Harris’ (D-CA) campaign for the 2020 Democrat presidential primary is falling apart from the inside. Harris’ current and former campaign staffers claim there’s a lack of focus and they have been unsuccessful in identifying issues to campaign about.
Harris’ campaign operations director Kelly Mehlenbacher wrote a resignation letter on November 11, accusing the campaign of treating the staff poorly and not having any plan to win the nomination.
Mehlenbacher, a former campaign staffer for Hillary Clinton, wrote, “This is my third presidential campaign and I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly.” Mehlenbacher, who already secured a position in Michael Bloomberg’s campaign, added, “It is unacceptable that we would lay off anyone that we hired only weeks earlier. It is unacceptable that with less than 90 days until Iowa we still do not have a real plan to win.” She also wrote that Harris’ campaign doesn’t have “leaders who will lead.”
Another former staffer for Harris told the New York Times, “You can’t run the country if you can’t run your campaign.” Harris’ consultants and campaign manager took pay cuts because of the campaign’s low cash reserves.
Harris comes in 4th place in the latest SurveyUSA polls, getting just 10 percent of California, after Joe Biden.
