Meghan McCain doesn’t agree with Donald Trump on much, but they do have one thing in common: a disdain for Rep. Adam Schiff. On Friday morning, just a few hours after the president went on a Twitter rant about “Liddle’ Adam Schiff” (complete with the apostrophe), McCain echoed that sentiment on The View. McCain called the House Intelligence Chairman the “worst kind of partisan in Washington,” and she said that he should not be leading the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry. “I can’t stand Adam Schiff,” said the conservative firebrand. “He has proven himself to be a partisan hack over and over.”
After a wild week in Washington, the women of The View had no shortage of Hot Topics to discuss on Friday morning. After burning through the latest whistleblower update and Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire’s testimony, the discussion turned to Adam Schiff. On Friday morning, Trump called for Schiff to resign after he read a parody account of the president’s call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky during Maguire’s Thursday testimony. For once, Joy Behar and Meghan McCain were in agreement about Schiff’s parody, with Behar saying, “Sometimes the jokes should be left to the comedians.” Hostin disagreed, saying that she “didn’t read it as a joke at all;” instead, she felt that Schiff, a former prosecutor, was comparing the call to “when a mafia don says, ‘I’m asking you for a favor. I’m going to give you an offer you can’t refuse.'”
“If you have to clarify that it’s a parody, you’ve done it wrong,” said McCain, by way of counter-argument. “I also think tonally, when you’re opening up the investigation into impeaching our president about possible trades for information for money, this is not a time for parody at all.”
“I can’t stand Adam Schiff,” continued McCain. “I think he’s the worst kind of partisan in Washington.” She added that the Democrats should have “someone that conservatives are more comfortable with” running the inquiry, like West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin. “He has proven himself to be a partisan hack over and over,” McCain said of Schiff.
“Oh, I think he’s excellent,” interrupted Hostin. “With all due respect, you’re on the left, I’m on the right. I don’t trust him,” said McCain. “They should have someone up there who is not going to make a parody of it, not going to have to clarify themselves in any way. Someone who’s very serious who’s going to lay this out to conservatives and Republicans and Trumpers in the middle of the country who are confused.”
