Carl,
Right now, millions of us are stuck inside our homes to avoid spreading the novel coronavirus, unable to go out or get relief from the people we're trapped inside with. And this goes for our furry companions, too. Even worse, countless animals are currently locked inside with the very same people who abuse, brutalize, and torture them.
When Bella the dog was 11 years old, her human — who had adopted and raised her since she was just a puppy — murdered her. After her owner tried to strangle her with a zip tie, he then threw her in a trash bag and beat her on the head with a shovel. Even though Bella somehow survived all of that, she ultimately had to be euthanized because her injuries were so severe.
Despite the severity of the crime, her abuser was sentenced to only four months in jail, along with five years of probation, and was banned from owning other animals for 20 years. How did this man get away with murder? Because New York state has extremely weak animal cruelty laws that only regard companion animals as "property," like a rug or a car. Sign the petition to demand that New York state legislators toughen their animal cruelty laws and increase jail time for people convicted of animal abuse!
Thank you for all that you do,

P.S. Bella the dog was strangled, beaten with a shovel, and murdered. But her abuser was barely punished. Demand New York lawmakers pass Bella's Bill to protect animals from cruelty!
