Catholics continue to protest a so-called pride Mass in New Jersey. But they're getting heat from the pro-gay pastor and others. Church Militant's William Mahoney has more on the protest and pushback.
LGBT sermonist: "Each of us is changing the world — and, together, we are changing the Church."
An active member of the LGBT community gave a sermon on Sunday at the fourth annual pride Mass at Our Lady of Grace in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Father Alexander Santora, who began offering these Masses in 2018, blasted Catholics yesterday for resisting, "Protestors are outside Our Lady of Grace Church, Hoboken, as we celebrate our fourth annual pride Mass. God even loves bigots."
Harassing man (to Christian protestors): "You are disgusting."
One of the protestors reported to Church Militant a man was harassing them. When they said the name of Jesus during a prayer, he began screaming, cursing Jesus, and then snatched a Rosary from one demonstrator's hand. A police officer intervened, pulling the man away and asking the protestors if they wished to press charges. They did not.
LGBT sermonist: "I recognize the difference between male and female and that our Faith says, 'God made them male and female.' Yes. However, God made a whole lot more."
Of the six petitions during the prayers of the faithful, the final one was for some deceased persons while the other five were all based on LGBT themes. One petition was even tailored to people choosing to undergo sex reassignment surgery.
Prayer of the faithful: "For those in transition, that they always find in others the acknowledgment, welcome and recognition of the soul of who they really are."
Our Lady of Grace is in the Newark archdiocese, headed by "Nighty-Night Baby" Cdl. Joseph Tobin. Tobin has a well-documented history of pro-gay activism.
Cdl. Tobin: "A rethinking of the mystery of human sexuality is important, is incumbent."
While faithful Catholics are resisting the attempt to normalize sin, with pro-gay prelates like Cdl. Tobin in place, they feel like they're fighting an uphill battle.
The Newark archbishop sits on the Vatican's Congregation for Bishops with another vociferously pro-gay American prelate, Chicago's Cdl. Blase Cupich. Tobin was also recently elevated to the Apostolic Signatura, the Vatican's highest court.
